This week brings another themed quiz: Movies About Rock Bands. Some of the bands are real, some are totally fictional, and a couple of them make that distinction a bit fuzzy. :D

There are eight screenshots below. Most of them should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the films. So, which of these movies can you identify?

Please answer with movie numbers only, not titles..

Time for a few hints...

#1: This is the heavily embellished story of how Malcolm McLaren engineered the rise and fall of one of Britain's pioneering punk bands.

#3: I'd think all the clues you need for this one are right there in the screenshot:
  • Image of an iconic rock band on display and being pointed at
  • Jack Black
  • Classroom
  • Kids
#4: This Is... the story of a fictional band with a history of drummers who mysteriously explode. It's also Rob Reiner's directorial debut, and was arguably the first "mocumentary" to achieve a high degree of success.

#6: Oliver Stone directed this movie about a 1960s American rock band, with a justifiably heavy focus on its mysterious, charismatic, alcoholic, lead singer. That's him, as played by Val Kilmer, on the left in the screenshot. The band's keyboard player is standing next to him.

Hope these help. :D

    in a cave, eh?
More hints if you need 'em:

    1. Sid Vicious murders "My Way", fugitive train robber Ronnie Biggs makes an appearance, but John Lydon is noticeably absent.
    2. "The Lone Rangers" take a radio station hostage just to get their song played on the radio.
    3. A slacker musician needing cash fakes his way into a substitute teacher's gig and changes the students' curriculum to the only thing he knows: how to rock.
    4. The giant custom Stonehenge set ordered for the big show turns out to be 18 inches instead of 18 feet due to a mixup, so the band has dwarves dance around it to make it seem more awesome.
    5. The band, the groupies and the young journalist following them around join in a chorus of "Tiny Dancer" on the bus ride to the next gig. RIP Lester Bangs.
    6. Aldous Huxley writes about his experiences taking mescaline in "The Doors of Perception" and inspires a 60's rock band.
    7. AKA: All You Need Is Cash and featuring members of Monty Python and Saturday Night Live. There's also a sequel: Can't Buy Me Lunch.
    8. A Saturday Night Live spinoff studded with musicians: James Brown, Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and John Lee ....... RIP Donald "Duck" Dunn (Booker T. and the MGs, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, etc.)
