I don't have anything really funny to add to this. But I'm married into an Italian family,
and my mother in law was Slovenian. Every Christmas and Easter my mother in law
would make a nut bread called potica (pronounced pah-TEET-zah). A true pain in
the you know to make, it's hand rolled and layered with a cinnamon type filling. Usually
a whole family will get involved in the making of potica bread. Not to make light of
the fact she passed away in September, but that December I asked my brother in law
to check the freezer in case she had some potica stashed in there.
We live in another state now and not celebrating holidays with family, however we
still buy potica bread each year from a bakery from that region where family lives.
Delicious!

That is awesome that you did that as a family, and that you can get the feeling of being closer to family when you buy it. I love how our senses are connected with our emotional response.
