Tucson, it's a dry heat
I've said this before and I know I'm playing with fire here, but I have tried a lot of "tank crackers" in my EVODs - even let them sit for days in the atty. I have never had a tank crack on me. Now, that's not to say it doesn't happen, but if you want to try a particular juice in an EVOD and have some to spare in case it does crack, go for it! I would worry about Pluid though - that stuff looks scary!

I've wondered the same thing about safety, but heck, vape is safer than analogs. I picked up a couple of SmokTech Ego Dual Coil Cartomizers (holds upto 5 ml) from MBV just to vape some clearo killer flavors. I've enjoyed my Carto thus far. I have this on hand and topped off just for a switch in flavor or for when I don't want to mess around with tanks (like in the car, out walking, out and about on the town, etc.). It's small, and I wouldn't cry if I lost it. Something to think about. Another suggestion could be getting a Vivi Nova tank with a metal tube instead of the plastic one. My Vapor Store has this option for about $10. I don't have one yet, so I can't speak personally. This might be a better option if you hate the green apple and need to switch out the flavor.

It's not that the flavoring is harmful by itself, it's that some are known to react with plastics commonly used in clearomizers.

The real question, is how harmful is the byproduct of the reaction that causes the cracking to inhale?

If you are really wanting to try out that flavor, but not use a protank, try out the SMOK XL cartos, they hold a ton and don't crack.

I understand the thought behind being concerned with what we may vape and inhale. But most of us are ex-smokers and we wern't too concerned about the some odd 4000 cancer causing chemicals (and the sort) we put into our bodies then.

But I guess this goes along with an ex-smoker being the most vocal (negative) when around current smokers.

Just because something chemically reacts with plastic doesn't mean it's not safe for human consumption (and the reverse is true: the fact that something doesn't react with plastic doesn't mean it IS safe). For example, hydrofluoric acid doesn't react with HDPE plastic but will dissolve glass, metal, and flesh.

Tank crackers react with polycarbonate, but not polypropylene or silica and boron oxide (aka the components of pyrex glass). All it means is chemical A doesn't play nice with chemical B. Since you don't have any of those compounds in your body (at least, I hope not!), it's not an indicator of whether it's safe for your chemical structure or not.

I think a lot of this is blown out of proportion as well. Yes, the liquids eventually will crack a tank. But it takes a really long time to do so. Like a month or more of continuous use. EVODs are not made to be a non consumable item. A few months from a plastic clearo type tank is about all you can expect even with non-acidic type juices. I regularly use banana, cinnamon, citrus flavors and I've had exactly one tank break on me and that was after about 6 weeks of use.
