Hey everyone. I've been a lurker here for a while and I'm finally starting to get more involved into the community. For one reason or another I just feel like I should be doing more in this scene. So right now I'm just saying what's up and telling my story. Been solely vaping for over a year now, but have always been into the scene since the first cig-a-likes were around. I've seen it all.
How I got into vaping: So I've been a smoker since I was around 15. I remember I was the first out of my friends to start, but as we all know how high school goes, my friends saw how cool it looked and soon followed suit. One of my biggest regrets in life was getting my friends to start smoking. Well fast forward to around 2011. I've been up to a pack a day, same as my friends and my father. I go to my local gas station to pick up a pack of Marlboro Lights and see he has the cig-a-likes. I scoff at them, buy my cancer sticks, and be on my merry way. Once I get home I notice the cig-a-likes I just saw at the gas station were on my kitchen counter. It was my fathers. I talk to him about it and he tells me he loves it and he is going to try and quit using them.
Now, my father has been trying to quit smoking ever since I was born. He would always quit for a year or so but then for some reason he would be dragged right back into them. Anyways, I ask to try it and I start using this odd device. (I don't remember the exact company...I want to say njoy but I don't know if they were around back then). I'm intrigued. It tastes sort of like a real cigarette but sure as hell doesn't feel like one. I'm actually impressed at how it works and how it tastes but I knew it wasn't enough to pull me away from the Marlboro Lights I have grown to absolutely adore. But that was my first introduction into the world of electronic nicotine delivery systems.
About a year later my father is back on cigarettes but has tremendously cut back because of his cig-a-like he so sparingly used. Then one of my friends is walking around with an EVOD type ecig with a clearomizer on top. I see him blow a nice cloud and I ask if I can try his out. "My dad has one of the ones that look like a cigarette and it sucks, hopefully this one isn't as ....ty" I say in a very demeaning way. I take a nice long puff and cough my ....ing ... off. My friend chuckles and tells me to try again but to take it easy this time. I take another draw. WHAT'S GOING ON? WHAT IS THIS FLAVOR I TASTE? OH WOW SMOKE?! IS THIS A BUZZ I FEEL?! My eyes widen. I am AMAZED. I'm instantly in love. I ask him everything there is to know and we go out and I buy the exact same one. I show my father and he does the same thing. We were in vaping heaven...or so we thought. This was at a time where vaping was still underground and not much was known, nor was there thousands of different devices to choose from. We went through the works with carto-tanks, clearos, glassos, all the "old school" stuff. And thus I fell back into smoking. It was just BARELY not enough for me to pull me away from the tight hold Marlboro had on me.
Fast forward to about a year and a half ago. I come home to visit my parents and see my dad with this GIGANTIC copper pipe in his hand. I then see him take a long, deep, draw straight into his lungs. Then he exhales. He blows out a cloud bigger than one I have ever seen before, then he places his copper tube down, kicks out his legs, leans back in his chair, puts his hands behind his neck, and has a huge grin on his face. He looks the most relaxed I have ever seen my father. His skin is brighter. His teeth are whiter. He smells like a million dollars. His breathing is much more clear and no longer so pronounced. I ask when the last time he smoked a cigarette was and he told me "Ummmm I dunno. Like months ago?". I was so happy and proud of him. He says it's because of his new "mod" and that I need to get one. I do. and the rest is history. Ever since that day I haven't bought a pack of cigarettes since.
I'm completely enthralled in this scene now. I'm constantly buying new gear, trying new juices, watching the reviews, making crazy builds, you name it. And in doing so completely forgot about my addiction to cigarettes. I always thought I was going to be the one to get my father to quit smoking, but it actually turned out that he was the one to get me to quit. I'm also happy to know he will be around a little longer now that he kicked that destructible habit. And to that I am forever grateful for these products and this community.
What am I vaping right now: Right now I mostly use my Nemesis Clone and PlumeVeil Clone or Kayfun Lite Plus V2. I normally stay around 0.2ohms-0.4ohms. When I'm home though I use my Seven22 and I usually build my Patriot that I put on there at around 1ohm and burn it at around 20watts. And my current ADV is Strawberry Cheesecake from Rocka Mystic. Although I usually rotate flavors throughout the day.
