looks like i'll be either returning or swapping out for a new one that piece of ssss that I bought today at harbor tools. The ohms on that multimeter jump around like crazy and I get very inaccurate reading when testing my coil. First it said .6, then .3, then 1.5, then .4, it's doing whatever the hell it wants to, and I'm not even gonna say what it does when you touch the two probes together, it doesn't want to settle down. The "manual" said it should say zero, 164 ohms down to 56 and back up to 123 within 1 second is not exactly "stable"

Do I need to calibrate this in any way?
Or did I just get a bad one

ok so I'm frustrated as all f.....

I go to return it, they're awesome about it and I get my money back, so I originally thought I had a bad one right? WRONG

Me and this dude tested 5 other ones, some older, some newer, some with a light up display, every time you touch the probes together the ohms are jumping

So I go to walmart 'cause I saw a multi meter there by GE Electric, just didn't want to fork out 16 bucks, test it - SAME THING

So now I need your help (and thank you Ronnbert for helping, and the rest of you guys so far), but I really need your help - I need a multi meter that's gonna be STABLE when you touch the probes together, so that it settles down on whatever it needs to settle down on, be it .3, .4, .6, whatever, just something stable and consistent

You guys of all people know that I can't have a multi meter that's showing up incorrect numbers, and definitely not with this hobby

HALP :( :( :(

In order to measure the resistance of the probes with all multimeters, you have to press the tips of the two leads firmly together, and be prepared to fork 50 bucks. And then you should only expect a precision of 0.1 Ohm.

See this video:

Going to 0.01 Ohm is on the 150 bucks range for a specialized meter, or circa 800 for a multimeter.

buy the little black box from USA Meters (above) or buy a Chinese little black box for a few bucks less. Either way, you will be miles ahead of any cheap ohm meter, including an entry level Fluke. I have tried several, and while they will give you a stable reading, the resolution will only be in tenths (0.1) whereas the $20 box will give you hundredths (0.01).

Those boxes go down to the milliohms, and I could manage to measure milliohms with two decent (not outrageously expensive) multimeters and a lab DC stabilized power supply, using something like a Kelvin connection. But that is a hassle.

However, I'd like to see the nominal precision figures of those boxes.

While that meter that you screw the atomizer into is wonderful, wouldn't serve me squat. The devices I wind the coils on are on my Hybrid Mods (the heads don't come off). Multimeter all the way for me. Yes I'm also lucky enough to have a middle priced fluke and use it daily. As long as you never get a hybrid those little black boxes would do I guess. Good luck..

My black box reads to the thousanths place when sub-ohming. The screen will say 371 which means .371, since the decimal place is in front of the screen.

The website says it is precise to 0.0005 or .2% whichever is greater. I have to say, they do really seem this accurate, and every one of these I have used has read the same, unlike some other ohm meters. Let me dig out my inexpensive DMM and compare, if I have time.

I'm getting an ohm meter . It's the stable Multi meter that I need so that I can check voltage of my battery.

Guys listen - what about those little round voltage meter things for 15 bucks? I read that they're accurate. Would it make more sense to just get those two? Or that two in one combo ohm meter?

I basically want to make sure I don't let the bbattery drain below 3.6 volts

For measuring battery voltages, a cheap digital multimeter with 4 and a half digits put to the 20V range is enough, as you have a healthy safety margin to the minimum discharge voltage of 2.5V, and such multimeter will give readings with 0.1V accuracy.

Problem is measuring the low resistances one finds in subohm gear with a multimeter. Even mid/high range meters with 50,000 counts are not spec'ed to read accurately to the hundredths of Ohm. Those instruments are not designed to measure accurately such low resistances, as those low values are not very common in the industry. And for the rare needs of having to measure resistances lower than 1 Ohm for a living, there are the so called LCR meters.

Like this one. I mean after all I only need the multimeter for those two things.
Omnitester - RTD vapor

so I could screw my apollo hybrid mod on this and test the voltage of the battery?

Yes, but keep that multimeter you bought as a backup.

Thank you for taking the effort to upload a pic and responding dude. I could have sworn I thought you were talking about the multi meter.

Alright I'm gonna geta cheapie multimeter from Walmart and an ohm meter to get more accurate reading.

I got quite a nice Mastech multimeter because everyone said it was a good idea. I tried checking the voltage on batteries. It always showed the same voltage as my charger so there didn't seem to be a lot of point. I never tried measuring coil resistance, I use the mod to check that. Maybe I'll find a use for it one day. I don't subohm or use a mech though.

Found a new vape shop yesterday. Awesome staff. Very knowledgeable and very friendly. Got some kanthal a-1 and 2 juices. Spent 50 bucks. My girl was upset. Can't say I blame her. Anyone else got a spending problem with vaping like me? I just want to know I'm not the only one addicted here lol

Sorry man, it's just you. The rest of us are really self disciplined about that stuff, and always put our girl's needs first.

I'm not putting vaping over her, she's just ticked, or should I say WAS ticked off at me for spending money
As long as you are spending less than smoking, you are fine in my book. Even if you are spending more, it is getting and keeping you away from a nasty habit, which is priceless.
