Am I the only person in the world who can't figure out how to make the multimeter work? I know I have to set it to ohms. I've done that. I know I have to touch the two leads together to figure out what the natural resistance of the unit is. Well, this is where the trouble comes in. It won't settle on one number. It just cycles through numbers continuously and dosen't settle on just one so I'm not sure even what the resistance is.

I feel like I am missing a huge point of this because watching all the videos people have their meters settle clearly on a number.

I will post a video if I'm the only one with this issue . I'm using the Southwire autoranging multimeter -11050N

So want to set up my new Reo but I dont want to screw up the RM2 when making the coil for it.

Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

you do not need to hold the leads together first on an autoranging meter, only on a cheap one like i have!

Make sure the surfaces are clean if you are measuring coils at the atty posts and use some pressure to get a good connection. Alternatively measure at the bottom - with one MM lead on the threads and one on the bottom centre pin.

I touch the leads together anyway - i just caught myself doing it and it won't hurt, it reads 0.

I edited this to add that you can also get a rough idea of what you'll end up with, by measuring the wire you make your coils from e.g. cut 3 inches of wire and put one probe say 1/2" in and then move the other along the wire until you get close to what you want your coil to be when finished. That takes a lot of the guesswork and charts out of different thicknesses of wire.

I've got a southwire too, but not the auto-ranging, it has an internal resistance of 0.2 for what that's worth.
I'd make sure you're on the right setting and touch one of the points to the side of the other point, the auto ranging can cause it to take a little longer to get a steady reading so try to keep it steady and keep solid contact. If you don't get a steady reading then something is up.
