1. Is the atty dead? Does it work on the other battery? If you have a meter, check the voltage output... that one battery might not have enough "push", especially on an old atomizer.

2. Try the "wedge" mod (there are videos here or linked here somewhere). When empty, pull the whole wedge out with tweezers, fill the cart to within 2 or 3 mm of the top, then slowly pack the wedge back in & top off. A little messy until you get the hang of it. Have paper towels handy.

I can't answer #1 but I'm sure someone on here can. As far as #2, Marineland Filter Type U is what you need. Wash it and rinse will BEFORE you use it. It has a chemical on it that can be easily washed off. I know the chemical has something to do with cleaning impurities out of fish tank water (someone correct me if I'm wrong about the chemical). Click the link below to get an idea how to do it. I cut mine a little longer than this guy does. Just make sure it fits a little snug or you'll have a juicy mess. I don't pre-fill my carts either. I put the filler in it first. Drip some juice in and wait for it to settle in. I use a toothpick to move my filler a little and let it spring back so it absorbs quicker. Either way will work. This is just my preference. Here's the link. The blue cart mod will cause you to use more juice than the filler type but you will use most of the juice in a blue.
