I just picked up some blue foam from the pet store. When restuffing it, it seemed like the blue foam might have been a little bit too small. But then i saw a video with someone using a piece of blue foam about half the size of the cart. So after i put the foam in, i dripped some ejuice in it, obviously too much since i sucked in some juice on the first draw. After the first draw, it was not working at all: no vapor, and no hit. I thought i might have screwed up the atty so i tossed on an old cart with the polly filling and it worked just fine. Anyone have any advice on what i may be doing wrong? Thank you in advance.

I'm fairly new to vaping, but after doing a lot of research on this site straight away, tried the blue foam mod early on. The posts I saw (don't remember who it was) recommended cutting the foam just a hair shorter than the inside dimension of depth of the cartridge, and 1/3 the width WIDER. I found this to work the best, as making it the same size left too much total air space in the cartridge, and it had a tendency to flood my atty. (so you have to scrunch it a little bit with tweezers to insert it) When I used all VG juice that was thick, the smaller blue foam insert worked well, though. It kind of depends on what the viscosity of your juice is.

The shorter piece you saw was probably the blue-foam plug mod. It sits on the little shelf inside the cart about 1/2 the way down inside...you can see it with some light. Then you fill the cart completely with juice, and the plug keeps it in. This requires the right size of foam, as it can easily get pushed in my the bridge. Starting with what neednfewer suggests is probably best at this point.

I've experimented with several different cuts of the blue foam.
Your 510 atty cartridge is not flat on the inside "floor", there is a small raised area in the center. Thus I've tried cutting a "V" in the foam insert so it had legs that straddled the raised area, plus gave me additional free space in the cart. this doesn't seem to make any difference, or not very much of one. I get leaks and floods all the time. so far, the best thing I've found is to cut the top of the foam (nearest the atty) a little wider so that it compresses when inserted. even with that, i still get some leaks and floods. Maybe I'm over-filling the carts, though.
