I'm in, but I don't think there would be much need for an IT Guy/Sys Admin like myself on a commune. :( ...

Heck, yeah - I mean, absolutely we'd need a sys admin. You do networks, too, right? Any self-respecting modern commune needs a network - how else are all our hardware gonna talk to each other? And who's going to keep our hardware running, eh? You'd be the most valuable guy there! :D

Haha, yes, networking too of course! ;)

OK, I need to brush up on my terminology then is the problem. I thought a commune was one of those totally "off the grid" places where you grow your own food, build your own buildings, etc. If we'll still have Internet then I'm totally in! :)

We'd need an internal system and a direct link to GV, other than that we could be off the grid....

Easy! ;) VMware View is one of my specialties so some low power zero-clients (dumb terminals) and tablets spread around the commune with a central server location and we're all set! :)

now do we all share one computer that is locked up and we all have to share the internet time, hows this gonna work.

Oh gosh no! Virtual PC's (Windows 7/8 or Linux) running on centralized servers (VMware) and then used through tablets or Wyse terminals (VMware View). :)

But its way hot here July through September...all the Sugar gets sticky.

I am from Phoenix. You do not scare me off with the weather talk. Hot? Pfft.

We will need internet. We will need food. Some housing (with A/C :) ). Done. I cycle to most of my destinations now - easy, cheap transportation that is healthy for you and the environment.

I can ride right over to the GV shop and pick up my order.

HECK, no! A commune doesn't need to be low-tech. Depends on the purpose of the commune, I'd say. So we can be self-sustaining and Eco-sensitive, but since we can get our electricity from wind-mills and solar panels, that satisfies my conscience just fine. No need to go all-Luddite.

You will take my 'puter only out of my cold dead hand. :D

I don't mind growing my own food......but no network and internet....not happening. My biggest fear is the EMP...lol

Well then it seems a commune is out by the original concept, I guess instead we should just all get together and buy a subdivision and just help out our neighbors. All this fancy schmancy stuff costs money, which means we'd all have to work anyway! Maybe we should just found Vaperstown....

Definition commune; a small group of persons living together, sharing possessions, work, income, etc., and often pursuing unconventional lifestyles.

Ah, so I was wrong on the definition of a commune then! Well so far I see no reason why I'm not all for it then! :)
