Analog is not the antonym of digital.

electric cigarettes are the analog of cigarettes in both noun and adjective, excluding regulated power devices.

Honestly, between "analogs", APVs, "toots", I find many terms to rub me the wrong way....But in the end, it is all about NOT smoking cigarettes.

i think there's too much e cig (just did it) slang that makes it confusing and harder to search for info. vaporizers/vaporizing was first made popular for (OTHER STUFF) vaporizers, so googling it finds info about that mixed in. I think analogs shoulda never been used in place of cigarettes. then there's the whole cofusion and makes it harder to google info with terms that mean the same thing like: e juice, e liquid, PV, vape, vaping, e cig, ecig, and so on. They should have just popularized the "nicotine vaporizer" and "nicotine vaporizer liquid" or nicvape and NVL for short.

The term "analog" irks me to no end. It's almost as bad as "buttery threads" and "nipple top battery". One of these terms is being discussed in the General E-Smoking forum today.

Actually, E-cigarettes should be called analogs. The basic technology of the atomizer and heating coil is not digital, it's very much analog. Sure, some of the bells and whistles found on E-cigs are digital but they came along much later in the development curve.

I'm not holding out any hope that people will stop calling cigarettes "analogs" any time soon. It's like name-calling. We don't like cigarettes any more so we are going to call them "analogs" to hurt their feelings.

Seems a lot more intuitive to just call them "cigs" or "cigarettes"; I mean if we're willing to call these devices "e-cigarettes" then the word needs to have the appropriate context.

Well, I agree that some of the terms used take some getting used to and some are irritating to me as well. So, why don't we have some type of VOTE on what WE, the leading E-CIGARETTE FORUM would like?

We can do a poll and vote of the terms we prefer and all try to begin using them. ECF can lead the way for the industry terminology.

I like the idea of PV standing for portable vaporizer and agree that analog is meaningless outside the vaping community.

I certainly like PV better than what one YouTube guy (Dorn?) calls them, Personal Electronic Nicotine Inhalation System. He IS entertaining, though.

Not a huge fan of any of the names for my old ciggs, and use all of the "degrading" names we use for them. How ever I'm feeling that day is what I'll call them. Because none of them truly just "roll off the tongue" . All I know is that I'm glad that I Vape, and I don't have to smell like a huge ashtray everywhere I go and I don't beat my self up about lighting one up for a few quick puffs anymore. GO VAPE!

I suppose any of us could have disected the true meaning of the word, its connotation, history and future development but, I was under the impression this was just a light hearted topic/thread to kill time with the potential of a laugh or two. But, I suppose we don't don't get to vote on the meanings(or direction) of threads, they just evolve the way they do.

I'm can be as lighthearted as the next person, but am hard-pressed to think of a conversational topic that I would take more seriously than that concerning the use of language. Words, how we say things, are important. Civilizations rise and fall on the basis of how experiential phenomena is framed within its linguistic context. Remember the Edward R. Murrow quote about Winston Churchill?: “He mobilized the English language and sent it into battle."

I don't think anyone does use that term in real life. It's just a way to distinguish one from the other on the board. No biggie.

I guess that makes more sense.. I thought that's whey they are called Ecigs to distinguish the difference by adding the E... I dunno, no biggie to me either but 20 pages must mean something to the forum.
