Hi both are safe.
I would suggest you the istick 30w for the quality of vape.
On the istick 30 there is pulse width modulation under about 3 volts and on the mvp 20w under about 4 volts.
For me and others pulse width modulation causes more heat and less flavor it is just harsher.
And no one uses under 3 volts.
Plus the istick is lighter and has more power if you want to use atomizers like a subtank. The mvp 20w just has a bit more battery life.
Here are the reviews I got this information from:
istick 30w:
mvp 20w:
I used to have the istick 20w but i like the 30w much better with no pulse width modulation and voltage is in RMS (I know this must sound like chinese to you sorry).

Edit: Also the istick 30w can use coils down to 0.4 ohms and the mvp 20w only 1 ohm

I have the MVP 20W and I have to admit this thing is a sturdy piece of equipment. I've dropped it several times and it just keeps on chugging. As far as safety goes, I have yet to hear of anything horrific happening with an MVP. I wish I could say the same about the iStick because it seems like a good mod, especially when you consider the value(cost per watt) and aesthetics of it, but that's where it seems to end for me. I've never owned one, so I can't speak on the durability of the iStick. The reviews I've read about them auto firing or exploding is enough for me to know that I don't want one under my roof. It seems like a hit or miss with the iStick, though. Some people swear by them while others run as far away from them as possible. Maybe it depends on if you got one made on a Friday, or a Wednesday. Who knows?:?:
While the video reviews are good for initial(brand new) reactions, you really should look for reviews from people that have put the mods through daily use. Do a quick search on iStick malfunctions and MVP malfunctions. This should give you plenty of reading material to decide which you think is less of a hazard. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks for the information. These technical things are something that I can't understand properly.

If the low coils are the sub-ohm thing, I want to stay clear of that. Was a bit worried when I read the istick can do sub-ohm as I didn't want to accidentally do it as I have no clue about it. I heard it's dangerous if you don't know what you are doing when sub-ohm. I can't accidentally use sub-ohm can I?

Ahh thanks. I hadn't heard about any issues with the istick... Now I want to get the MVP20W. Wish they made a smaller one as I have found more glowing reviews about this company and the MVP line.

I'm with you on wishing the MVP would come in a smaller form though. Rumor is that there is an MVP 4.0 coming out in May, and it looks to be the size of an iStick! Plus it'll be a 40 watts. If this happens, I'm definitely in!
Anyhow, this is the review that killed any thoughts of getting an iStick for me.

Get a MVP 3.0. Same 30W as the istick 30 and is built like they want to last forever. I hear it even has better threads too, as of right now I have to use a 510 to 510 adapter to get some of my tanks to screw into my mvp 2.0.
Also keep in mind what tanks you're using. The Isticks are not very accurate with what voltages they're putting out, so if you're using something like a protank, get an mvp because it is more accurate and lets you actually use the lower settings whereas the istick will just fry your coils. But if you're using anything by aspire or something with a subohm coil in it, then the isticks are supposed to be great as you won't be setting the power very low anyways. Just don't want to see you buy one and it ends up it's not good for what you're trying to do.

I am still sold on the istick. I've been hitting youtube hard for reviews. I was gonna get the mini but my hubby talked me out of it. Its just a start anyway. Theres so much to do with vaping

Hey, thought maybe you overlooked this link in the thread. Not to sway you from the iStick, but....

Not sure if that is your beautiful child in your profile pic, but I have kids at home and would hate for any injury to happen to them because of my hobby. Just some food for thought.
