First, I some background. I've been vaping for about 3 weeks, so have 'vast' experience with my ego. I used to smoke about 1.5 PAD (so anywhere from 20-40 per day). I haven't quit analogues yet, and am dong about 3-4/day.. Bought my wife a joyce 510 after she saw my ego and wanted it (although she did make fun of it at first). Anyway, I thought it would be fun to have a thread about lessons learned about vaping. What I have learned and still have problems with:

1) you can't smoke a PV like a pipe or cigarette (short/shallow puffs)... it doesn't work.
2) my smell and taste are returning (started after about 4 days). I can't take the spicy food like I use to.. Now that I taste it, I see why my kids wouldn't eat it. Worse, I smell myself after an analogue and hate it.
3) flavors matter. I've hit a wall with the tobacco flavors (RY4, marlboro, ...) - they are starting to taste funny/bad. The banana, anise, and other flavors taste better. I still need to find something, not to sweet, as a more regular flavor.
4) don't vape in public unless you want attention - not necessarily negative attention. people are curious about ecigs and will ask and approach you. I have a lot of co-workers who came 'out of the closet' to ask about vaping.
5) even though my wife and i use the same carts, attys, etc. I could never use a 510 because the battery does not last long enough.
6) maybe there is some voodoo involved, but i can't seem to fill the carts correctly to last for a couple of hours. maybe i need to let the atty cool between puffs, as there seems to be juice left. it seems better to take the filler out, put the juice in the cart, then put the filler back in.
7) it does matter how you put the cart in if you do not like burnt plastic taste.
8) there is a thread about finding your (smoking) triggers... important if you want to get to zero analogues.
9) read the posts at the front of newbie section as they are very helpful, especially mistress nomad's videos.
10) e-cigs are intimidating to start, but not so hard to use (other than filling carts).
11) before buying anything, do research on the product and seller (this site is very helpful)! however, everyone has personal tastes, so take it with a grain of salt.
12) I do still get comments about getting to zero analogues, that somehow I'm failing by smoking 3-4 a day.

i forgot that that was an important lesson. i started with 18, which was to little and bought some 36 to mix with it. I think i need to get 24/28 mg... the lesson is that nic levls matter. and to get low and high levels of same flavor to adjust... haven't tried drip tip. suggestions?

Welcome and good job cutting down on the smokes. When you find your groove you won't even crave one. Now for the drip tip. Since you have an eGo you can drive LR atty's (510 or 306). Pick one up. This is where dripping really shines. I prefer the LR 306's. Vaporflow is running a $20 special. 2 - 306's and a drip tip. Of course you can just order a tip (many of the forum hardware suppliers carry them) and use your current atty. But if you try an LR i doubt you would go back to the standard atty. Just don't try to drive it with the small 510 batts.

As far as the filling cartridges to last longer, you might not be getting as much juice in as you could when you refill. The problem is that if you are just putting drops right on top of the filler material that comes with the cartridge, it isn't going to sink to the bottom without a little help. You can use a toothpick or paper clip to push the filler aside a little bit so that it can breathe while you are putting in the drops. Some people use a syringe or a needle tipped dropper bottle to get all the way down to the bottom of the cartridge, and some people use the straw modification. And I have found that if you replace the stock filler material with blue foam, you can actually put the drops right in if you tilt the cartridge to the side while doing so.

That's what I do with the blue foam. Tilt the cart about 30 degrees to allow juice to go down one side and air to come out the other. Works great. Another trick, if you have a paperclip/toothpick, is to push the filter all the way to the bottom, fill with juice and then pull the filter up, add a drop or two to top off if necessary.
