Don't know if this will help but a pictorial tutorial of a micro-coil with cotton wick.

As promised, a series of pictures to hopefully explain better. I wrapped the coil with 28ga Kanthal A-1 and wound up with a 1.58 ohm micro-coil with 10/11 wrap.

I use just plain old cotton balls from Wal-Mart. I do not boil them, I do not care if they are organic. I DO NO CONDONE THIS, MY CHOICE, MY LIFE, MY WAY, I burned one to make sure they were 100% cotton as advertised and I use them just the way they are. Yes the first dozen vapes have an off taste but after that I have no problem with the taste and neither does my wife. Use your cotton your way, if you want to boil - go ahead, if you want organic - be my guest, if you want sterile - that's your decision and no one else's.

Then just to prove that you don't need a high end mod to drive a PT2 and make a cloud I grabbed a battery from my box that hasn't been charged in at least two months and took a picture of the first cloud less than 1 minute after putting the head in the tank. Yes I did pulse it with a $200 mechanical mod but totally unnecessary, as long as the first ohm check is above 1.0 then you could pulse it with anything. I ALWAYS check the ohms before attaching it to anything to make sure there isn't a short.

Try a smaller diameter and make sure the coils are wrapped as close as possible. You don't need to pre torch the kanthal, but it helps. Make sure you heat and squeeze the coils with tweezers. Don't touch the coil while you're firing it though.

Been there, done that, still have the hole in my finger to show for it (luckily it was just a leg).

In this he wraps the cotton around the coil instead of putting it through the middle? I've never seen that!

Thanks everyone! I can't seem to find anything smaller enough in diameter to make as small of an opening as the one the store guy made, is the center diameter very important?

I bought an eyeglass repair kit from Target (in the readers section near the pharmacy) because the screwdriver is small enough for the screws in my IGO-W and its stealth enough to keep in my vaping case. I found I could use the screwdriver to also wind a micro coil. Mine came out to 1.8Ohms with 9 wraps of 28 gauge Kanthal.

new one, i think i'm getting a little closer but not there yet

2.0 ohm this time. clouds but not as much flavor as the store guy's coil still but improving i think!

Still not too tight, but holding it in the needle nosed pliers while applying a lighter helped.

how does the amount of cotton affect the taste?

also the guy at the store drilled the holes out so big the draw is very airy so I'll have to get a new one later

that's what i found that i used this last time-a tiny screwdriver to wrap the coil around

The amount of cotton will adversely affect the flavor of you have too much in the coil. What happens as the wick swells with juice it chokes the wicking action causing the hottest part of the coil, the center to be too dry. This in turn will cause dry, burnt hits.

Too much. It should fit through the coil loosely. It's going to expan when it gets wet.

Remember to fire the atty until the coils glow, then squeeze them together. That's why your coils aren't touching. You might have hot spots too. I would go with a smaller diameter, probably 5/64 to get a couple more wraps.

Super Drifter is the micro coil master. You're in good hands.

The position of the coil relative to the air hole changes the vape a lot. Keep experimenting. Your number 4 coil is looking better. The popping might be a hot leg. Make sure you fire it before you wick it. It should glow evenly starting from the middle. If it's not, keep squeezing it until it does.

Fire, if you look closely at Super's cotton it is not tightly packed or compressed. The consensus of opinion is that it should slide easily through your coil without catching. Once you have a working and safe coil just experiment with different amounts and with shorter and longer tails. That way you can tell the differences and what works for you.

If using IGO-W with 2 hole air cap I would plug one hole when doing single coil build.
If air hole is small, like 1.5 mm, I would position coil about 1 mm from air hole.

I like 3/32" twisted 30GA at 1.2 ohm. Can pack cotton ball wick pretty tight inside 3/32" coil. Not prone to long leg hot legs.

I've tried a few micros but have yet to achieve wicking as fast as 3/32" ID coil. More is more w/ 3/32" coil cotton wicks. I think less is more w/ micro coils cotton wicks; have yet to get perfect micro wick. I recommend playing with cotton wick thickness till you find the smooth TH and clean tasting vapor.

I'm ready to watch super-x's new vid and give my micro skills another shot at defeating my 3/32".

thanks everyone! i'll keep at it until i figure it out.

i'm also kind of confused as to how close to the base my coil should sit. should it sit down in the liquid? or up higher?

Depends on where your air hole is .Dont have it sitting all the way down or you will cause a short. You want it to sit so its right in line with air hole . Im going to wrap new coil if I can will post pic like others have to help you out :)
