I began trying e-cigs the summer of '11 after noticing them in the convenience store; tried it, and liked it, but that was almost as expensive as "the real thing". And so began my search. Strangely enough I found my current supplier through a very small SENIOR (that means old people - ha) forum. I began using e-cigs only in Oct. 2011 and have not had a tobacco cigarette since.

Yep, I'm old, (70) lucky me; as it sure beats the alternative. And I have been a one pack a day cigarette smoker beginning at 17.

This past March (2012) I had a total hip replacement (Thank You All ! ) and during the pre op workup, surgical stay, and post op followup everyone who had occasion to listen to my lungs remarked about how good, clear, wonderful they sounded.

lol Neil, watch out or she'll put exlax in your cupcake! I'm about 20 yrs younger than Judy but us older folks can be cantankerous! hehehe (totally kiddin, kinda) lol

Judy........welcome to ECF!! And congrats on quittin!!! We have a few senior threads on here and with your sense of humor you'd fit right in. Lots of us that smoked at 30-50 years and were able to quit with vaping. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/lounge/289745-older-people-55-up.html check it out if you'd like. Ouchie on the hip replacement, but I hope you're getting around much better now!

ETA: Congrats and Welcome!!! to thisguy also!!

Welcome aboard, to you and ThisGuy too!

My mom's nearly 70, vapes, and is the hugest vaping advocate around. She converted the nurse in the recovery room after cataract surgery. Now that's dedication. Age is certainly no barrier to changing over, understanding the technology, or advocating for it.

Welcome in Tallyajudy and ThisguyPa !!!
Lots of friendly folks here to listen, and get or give advice too....
But you both sound like you have made a really great start.
Don't ya just love vapping ? Wish they would have done more to advance and promote it decades ago.
But, we are here now.

Best to you both.

What an awesome story talleyJudy :) thanks for sharing it with us. Stay strong and vape on ;)

Thank You All for the Welcome and good wishes.

As a side note, through 50+years of life experience, I have learned that I consider nicotine my Rx of choice. As a teenager I had dizzy spells and one instance of fainting. My folks took me to the Dr., and the only thing he could find is that I had low blood pressure. The med he prescribed gave me severe headache. So he told my folks to have me drink coffee. That seemed to work well.
And the addition of nicotine a couple of years later also improved my low blood pressure. With coffee and nicotine my BP is in a very comfortable range.

The 3 times I very seriously tried quitting tobacco my main withdrawal symptoms would be mild depression along with lack of energy.
I was just very sad, had no energy/interest, and my eyes "leaked" a lot (crying without sobbing). Then a computer came into my life in '02. Research of nicotine revealed that it is a 'mood enhancer' (ya' think! ha) and elevates heart rate and blood pressure. Hmm, I think I 'knew that' all along.

I have never been challenged when out and about vaping but if I should be, my comment would be that this is my medication dispenser. ;)

First of all well done for quitting, good luck with the new hip and welcome to ECF.

Secondly I don't believe "Senior" folks have the capacity to use a computer never mind have their own forum. :)

(Just kidding with the secondly.......... a bit ;-))

Welcome to the forum. Good on you for giving up the analogs for that long. Now that you're hear, like me, I'm sure you'll get some great advice on how to save some $$$ and maximize your experience!
