Awesomesauce jonniemac!! And what makes me drool is that you did RED! I love RED mods.

I think it's great that you are sharing the CAD files with other modders at no charge, but the downside is those who make a profit off your work - those who will use it to make and sell mods and those vendors who will sell mod kits. You may even see your work listed at shapeways by someone and with a markup on price.

It's sad and unfortunate and absolutely not right, but this happens. So I would hope that you re-consider and take down the free CAD file, list it on shapeways yourself and with a markup that you are comfortable with.

Yippee, Mamu stopped by to comment on my little thread! Thank you! I admire and appreciate your work and tutorials. Would have never even considered building a mod if I hadn't come across your Milo tutorial.

I also appreciate and understand your perspective on my releasing the files but knew exactly what I was doing from the start. Standing on the shoulders of those who came before me and made it even a possibility. You for the tutorial, the open source hardware "reprap" community for making hobbyist 3D printers available and affordable and all of the modders who have graciously shared knowledge and experience.

I'm not a hippy or a gen-x "all information should be free" type of person by any stretch but I am a believer in the maker movement and open source software and hardware.

This is really just the most basic of 6 designs that I've done and the only one that is being released completely free and open. While the box, door and clamps printed great at home the buttons were kind of a failure so will most likely need to be printed at shapeways on a SLS machine. They are just too darn small.

Everyone that built a Milo or other variant of your tutorials thinks they should start a mod company and everybody that threw a couple of ingredients in a bottle thinks they should start a juice company. Crazy, gold rush times right now for sure. So, while I've built a Milo and make my own juice there is no desire in me to start a company based on either of those things. I am a hobbyist, a tinkerer and a maker.

You don't have to agree but I do hope you understand. My apologies if anything written came across wrong or just plain wonky. Philosophy much like religion and politics is usually best kept to oneself but for you I'll gladly give my long winded and probably obtuse answer!

Thanks again for all you have done for the modding community!

sure turned out nice, jonnie! a pity the buttons were a fail though :(

you sure you can't get them to work? ;)

Thanks! I'm going to try a couple of things Tibs and see if I can get them to print at home but am ordering a few sets from shapeways too just to be safe!

Ok, I came up with a new concept for the buttons that works. Print the button faces split from the actuator post/retainer ring. It was quick seven minute print on my machine. You will need to superglue or acetone bond the two parts together which will be more "fiddly" than I like but needed to come up with some kind of idea.

Here are those little buggers printed. New models have been uploaded and the links are in the imgur album. Oh and the body and door aren't warped, the door is just sitting wonky on the front face. Set them like that just for the photo and thought people could see how smooth the door is a little bit better.
