my 9v VV mod - KIS-3R33S

First off, I want to thank Raidy, Illuxion & Breakthru for some electronics help. There may be more that helped, so if I missed you, sorry.

First I tested the module on the desk to make sure it would function. I NEVER done anything like this, so played it safe.
After that, i bought a 3"x2"x1" project box from Radio Shack. It came with an aluminium backing plate. I put that plate where the cover should have gone, and it dropped it down 1/8". I took a knife and a butane torch, heated the blade, and trimmed the sides flush with the aluminium plate. filed it all flat and bevelled the edges, then finished the whole box off with a fine foam sanding block...

I then used a screw to start my hole for the atty. Drilled it in, then backed it out. Then, used a hand reamer to open it up to just under the size of the connector (ended up using it ). Tapped it in with a hammer.

thats it for now.. ill be posting as it goes. i will be refinishing the aluminium and probably coating the box with something, some paint or rubber coating, or maybe even just scuff it up a little more evenly

I got the input side, and switch wired up now... its kinda tight for me with all these wires, trying to keep them neat. Its a small tactile switch Im using, with a rubber button from a remote. Had to trim away some more plastic to get my wires to run along the outside like that, no big deal...

btw. it was about $5 for 10 of these modules. about $6 for the case and five 9v connectors. the resistor, switch, capacitors, pot, all freebies salvaged. $2 for the 510 connector. so about $13 for the whole thing, with LOTS of parts left over

just finished this up... really need some wire management. got too much glue on the switch also, its not as clicky... besides that it works fine. left the pot wires and atty wires long, since ill be swapping out the pot soon. feels a little more than 4v on high, but not totally sure. i thought the pot was a 20k ohm. ill check the resistance of the pot tomorrow, and output voltages... i should have went with the ti switching reg for this, but i have more of these modules. anyways

could be the batt, could be the pot, or could be a fail idea on 9v... more to come

could also be a combination of things but im betting on the pot. how knows. good job and idea anyway.

the pot i used measures 1690 ohm to 1880 ohm
it outputs about 7 to .92v
that dont make sense to me... huge voltage change, with minimal change in resistance. i have a feeling im getting HUGE voltage sag on these 9v alkaline batts... when i get some good lithium rechargeables and my trimmers in ill report back

besides a few blemishes, im real happy how the box came out. its a little big still, but taking that 1/8" off really helped. and im liking the scuffed up look, and it gives it a nice feel too. atty connector is pressed in TIGHT. id be surprised if it comes loose with out abuse

even if 9v dont work out, theres room for a pair of rcr123a's or maybe some 16340s.
so even if the 9v is a fail, the whole thing wont be im sure

i need like 1/32" clearance to get the lid down all the way, if that. but heres pics of it completed.
