So I've been making my own extractions. I have several that are tobaccos steeping, but I've always been a good cook and grown my own herbs. There is something about fresh that just can't be beat. So it wasn't a big leap for me to decided to extract sundry other items to make my own juice.

Chamomile. I filled a 100 ml glass jar with dried chamomile flowers and packed them in lightly. Then I filled it to the brim with PG (USP grade) and microwaved it for 10 secs. The dried flowers absorbed about 1/4 of the PG within minutes and I topped the jar back off with PG.. put a lid on the jar and set the jar in a warm water bath for 2 hours. I use my crock pot with the lid off as a warm water bath. I keep it on low and it maintains a pretty consistent temperature of about 180 F. I shut the crock pot off and let the jar continue to steep as it cooled. I got distracted on this batch and it steeped (cooled) for about 4 hours before I got around to filtering it.

I place a metal sieve over a clean glass jar and dump the material into the sieve, allow the infused PG to drain into the clean glass jar. Next I take a 30 ml syringe and stuff a cotton ball into it..... then I pour the liquid into the syringe replace the plunger and filter the liquid back into the (newly washed) original jar. For 100 ml jars I usually fill the syringe two or three times to get all the liquid filtered. Depending on how gunky the material is I often replace the cotton ball each time as well. That isn't needed for chamomile, but for some extracts like chocolate it is a must or you won't be able to push the plunger in. This chamomile extract produced 50 ml of clean infused PG-- the infused PG is the color of a granny smith apple.

So as is my habit, I always taste it fresh and then I vape some fresh. I take notes at this point and try to characterize the flavor so I can compare after it steeps. That wasn't needed with this. Oh my... this was spot on chamomile, which isn't a strong flavor to begin with and many describe it like a light apple type flavor. In tea I barely get any flavor from chamomile, that is just its nature. This was chamomile, but stronger than tea -- still light and fresh and you definitely get that vague since of a sweet fresh apple.

I couldn't put this down, I've been vaping it all day since. I vaped it for a few hours before I decided to experiment and add some nicotine to it. It is so satisfying on its own, it is quite amazing. It is also soothing and feels amazing on your throat.

If you want to know more about the properties of chamomile you can google it. I don't want to say something here that will cause a problem, but this is one delicious smooth vape.

I am vaping it straight or mixed as follows

7ml chamomile infused PG--straight from filtered crock pot PG
3ml 60mg PG nicotine base -- for a 18 mg mix

I would like to add I think I will cut this one back to 12 mg on my next mix... I normally vape around 28 mg , but this doesn't need much. So if you normally vape at 12 and want to try this, try it at zero first and if you feel you want to add something try 6 mg. This is not an intense flavor.. it is subtle and it is soothing.

Not to put a damper on your post but, many flowers, herbs and roots have compounds that are toxic to humans. Inhaling vape made from something ie: Rosemary, Nutmeg, etc. Research what you put in your lungs. I'm pretty sure chamomile is safe.

You are correct, the nice thing about chamomile is it has no known adverse side effects. In fact in herbal remedies a steam extraction is used for asthma so I thought it plenty safe. Nutmeg by the way is extremely dangerous in any large quantity but adds flavor to foods in minute amounts.

I would check to make sure the tea bad had just chamomile in it. I suspect it is chamomile and lavender. I haven't checked the properties of lavender for inhalation, but I do know it is used in aroma therapy and may be fine. The quantity should be fine. I used a lightly packed jar, full jar with a bit of a squish to add more flowers and then used PG and I vape it straight or add a little nicotine. It is very relaxing and is a mild sedative so it adds that calm aspect for me I don't get from pure nicotine vape juice. 10ml in two teaspoons so there may be plenty of tea in one tea bag to make a nicely flavored juice.

Great job Proverb, another chamomile fan! I used cold extraction for mine and it came out very well. Since chamomile always relaxes me, I make it at 6mg for my night time vaping.

I've learned that cold extractions are just as nice as warm ones, but they take just a bit longer. I tasted my warm extractions right after I filter them. Most of my warm extractions are 60% VG and 40% water. I was doing a batch of those when I decided to try the chamomile with PG and I just added it to the water bath. I have now done several more PG extractions, with the cold method and I like them. I will post some pictures.

Here are a few extractions I did in 100% PG, cold method... the first one is ginger, lime, rhubarb and vanilla. These pictures were taken with in a few minutes of the addition of the PG.

This one is five tobacco extractions done with 60% VG and 40% distilled water... these were extracted in a warm water bath for about 2 hours. I tasted each one warm and made a few notes.. then I steeped them a few days and decided I wanted to use those jars for more extractions and I combined all the extracts together. The flavors were all similar, but a little different. The main flavor I get from tobacco is a warm nutty flavor. These pictures were taken before they went into the bath.

So here they are all combined The little jar next to it is the chamomile.

I am filtering the fruits shown above today. I have already tasted the rhubarb which is quite delicious. I didn't dilute it and I think these should more properly be called infusions rather than extractions. The flavors are clean and delicious but they are not in your face. I would call them mild but authentic. I am using organic certified herbs and produce. For the ginger and rhubarb I purchased it fresh then I cut it into small pieces and dried it in a 170 degree oven before I used it. The chamomile I purchased from mountain rose herbs and the tobacco I purchase from leafonly so it was not organic certified, but it was natural and unprocessed. The lime I used fresh, but only removed the green part of the peel with a micro planer.

Today I am also making more extractions with dried elderberry and licorice root, both organic certified from mountain rose.

I am really enjoying my results and think the juice made with commercial flavored extracts can't begin to compare to these infused juices.

I'll post more once I get them filtered and taste all of them.

Nice idea - soon, we'll see a whole line of your "garden herbal" juices available for sale, right?
:2cool:

You are thinking like a few of my friends. I don't know if I'll go to that effort. I originally wanted to start a local shop for vapors in my area, but decided it was more than I could keep open by myself. I really love my full time job and don't want to give it up. I don't want to worry about hiring employees, I guess I am afraid it would be hard to maintain the quality control I would want unless I was there all the time. I guess we never know what the future holds though. I do love to share them and I have people tasting them who don't vape, but like them at zero mg, basically right out of the infusion bottle. They think I should sell them, but then none of them are wanting to do the work with me either so I don't think it will happen.

I would love to find a vape meet and let people try them and get some feedback from people who vape. I am thinking about the one in Atlanta. It is just fun to see people enjoy them, kinda like when I make a great batch of cookies ... or even when friends beg me to cook the steak they just bought. I get some joy out of others enjoying my cooking and this is similar.

Sounds lovely. I'll have to sort out it out for VG because I can't handle much PG.

I actually don't like VG to vape, but to taste it .. well it is definitely better than PG. For VG extractions often referred to as glycerites in herbalist language, use 60% vg and 40% distilled water. Then put a lid on your jar and steep either cold or in a warm water bath. I always strain my VG mixes warm and they run right through a sieve and coffee filter and are easy to push through a cotton ball in a syringe. I vape those warm to taste them before I steep them and they are good and produce enough vapor to satisfy me just like that. I've made all my tobacco extractions this way and I think they are good. I'm sure it would work with the chamomile as well. I do think that for cold extractions the VG takes quite a bit longer.

I know many people talk about extracting for months, but two days in PG (cold extraction) has been working great for me. I will post some pictures shortly of my two day steeped and then filtered fruit extractions.

I base when it is done based on the color of the extracted fruit. for example my lime rinds are white and my PG is vibrant green... that means it is done. I will try some cold VG extractions and see how long they take. Not everything will turn white like the lime, but I only used one lime for that extraction. However all the extracts will turn color and a nice rich color is usually an indications that the extraction is done. I also taste them and I use a pipette to draw some fluid out and fill a bcc tank. Then I vape a little. If the flavor is good, then I strain and bottle it.

I do vape it plain without dilution. I also vape it with a little nic added. Sometimes I think I just need to relax with the hand to mouth habit and I like chamomile for those moments when I don't feel the need for more nic. I also think it calms like the tea where nicotine stimulates. It is better tasting as a vape (I think) than even a tea.
