I have a friend that manufactures regulators and other electronics that are potted in epoxy. It is mostly for medical and food processing so he tells me it is safe, any way I go borrow :) some when I need some as he buys it in 55 gallon drums. Asked for the specs but he was not excited about giving out his secrets, so I didn't insist. I have been using it for over 3 years.

Whats the temp rating? Is it "safe" to use around a coil?

Well an advert for it states "It is water and solvent resistant and withstands high temperature extremes"

And the MSD states: MSDS Doc

CONDITIONS TO AVOID:
OPEN FLAMES, SPARKS, HEAT, ELECTRICAL AND STATIC DISCHARGE.

and

FLASH POINT: >200 DEG. F/93 DEG. C SETA FLASH CLOSED CUP

That said - I used it to glue in a PTFE insulator for the pos screw when assembling a GTUS, that's pretty close to the coil. I have no clue if I'm vaping glue fumes - but it seems to be holding up fine.

I have been meaning to pick up some food safe silicone. What is a good one and where to find it? :D

Bap I am a scavenger, have two nephews dentists, visit them often and not just for dental work.;). Anyway got some silicone they use. It is from Spain. Dan put the different types that were food safe on one of his threads... I have yet to buy any and here on the island we get silicone, in three colors regular or red hightemp for gaskets. Not a big selection.

Bap, DAP 100% is good stuff and available at home depot and many other places, if that tube is too large for you, aquarium silicone is safe as well, from anywhere you can get aquariums.

That was fun to write. ;)

The aquarium tip is a great one. Small fish are a lot more sensitive to toxins in their environment than we are, and I have the memory of dozens of expensive dead fish to prove it :(

Finally gave up on the whole fish thing...

Yes just one wrap of Ni foam around the wick. I wrap it around and assemble it all PK style leaving the pos coil wire unattached until I have it all assembled. When it is all put together, I rotate the wick to tighten the coil and attach the pos wire of the coil and snip off any excess wick on the top.

Curious, with the AO wicks being as brittle as they are, how are you snipping off the excess without shattering the wick?
