Wow! I have been smoking so long and I always remember non smokers talking about how bad it stinks and I always said yeah I know but it smells good to me.
Holy crap! 2 full days for the wife and I without an analog and got in my car for the first time in two days (had my trusty PV!) And just nasty smoke smell everywhere. I now feel sorry for any non smoker that ever had to sit in my car.
And to mention, being in the car/truck is one of my main triggers and so far so good with the PV! I do get funny looks from people tho and got eyeballed by a cop today as I waved to him while he was staring at me strangely! lol.

Here and back
I found an easy way to get rid of the smell,... I just totaled my car, sliding on ice trying to make a curve in the road and running right smack into a snow plow truck in the other lane.

Smoke smell gone,... so is the car.

Only consolation is the next car I buy will not have the smoke smell now :)

That's hysterical, glad you're OK!

I used to spray my cloth seats and carpet with fabreze, it helped for a while and then eventually the smell went away. Clean your plastic with armor all and you may have to shampoo your carpets. I also use the the packets of odor absorbing crystals, I would put them in the cup holders built into my car doors on the bottom.

Oh the great north east! I've been avoiding sliding drivers everytime I drive now! My truck is relatively new and I did smoke in it. A ton of tree new car air fresheners have masked it in the meantime. Its going to warm up this week and im gonna get out and scrub the hell out of it. Although having a F150 with no carpeting on the floors helps (its all rubber/plastic)! I love that I can hose off my floor now and smoke smell sticks alot less on rubber :)

The smoke gets into the ventilation system. I found the only way to really get rid of it was to leave the car running and alternately turn on the heating and air con systems. I misted vinegar and water into the car every few minutes while I was washing and polishing the outside of the car and it really helped. I assume I will have to do this more than once as the weather warms up.

OK everybody, I've found an excuse for my first post. I'm an avid amateur auto detailer, and I'll share my best tool for getting rid of that smokey gunk in your car.
Just mix Woolite and water at a ratio of 10 to 1 in a spray bottle. (That's 10 parts water to 1 Woolite) Spray the upholstery carpets and headliner.Give it about 1 minute of dwell time. Then scrub with a cotton towel.
If the stains are too set in, you can increase the Woolite a little higher, but if you get more than 8-1 it starts to get too foamy.
My favorite for glass is Invisible Glass brand glass cleaner in a spray bottle and a microfiber towel. (I buy in gallon jugs and refill my sprayer).
I hope this info will help someone.

Yep my cars stank too!
I am lucky though, I have a soon to be DIL who is a finance manager at a huge dealership, she had my cars detailed for free, I just tipped the guys who did it a nice tip:)
They have a special spray that kills smoke odor and they also blew out my vents with a air compressor, you would not believe the GUNK that gets trapped in your vents!! YUCK!!!
