Hey guys, just purchased my eVic a few days ago after my (2nd) Vision Spinner broke.. My first step into the world of mods/APV's, and I'm loving it!! But with this new ability of my device being able to show me the resistance (Ω ohms) of my coil, brings a question..

I've noticed that my eVic is showing me varying numbers for the resistance of some of my coils, mainly for my Protank.. Especially with the new coil I just screwed on, it's labeled as 2.5Ω from DiscountVapers.. Now I know sometimes the resistance can vary from what it's labeled as, but some of my coils are showing a different resistance everytime I check the same coil..

So I screwed this brand new '2.5Ω' coil onto ProTank..I turned on my eVic and it told me that my Protank's atomizer was 2.9Ω. Not too big a deal, a bit higher than labeled, but whatever.. I took a few (low-volt) drags and than I switched out for a T2, so I could let my Protank prime a bit. About 5 minutes later, I screwed the protank back on, and now my eVic is telling me it's 2.7Ω. Than I turned my eVic off and back on, and than it said that my protank coil was 3.0Ωs!!
..... 3Ω, the highest resistance I've ever used!! At least since I've had my eVic to tell me how many ohms my coils are, but is it really 3 ohms?? I disconnected my tank and re-connected, and now it's reading @ 2.6Ω. This is odd to me, I've only taken about 6 drags total on this new PT coil.

So what gives?? Is my coil's resistance actually changing this much before my eyes, or maybe my eVic's messed up? Thanks in advance!

I am an "electronics tech" and while I don't know everything there is to know about e-cigs, I do know enough about electronics that I doubt very seriously that your unit is calibrated, or any unit is for that matter.

When you are talking single digit resistance values, even most hand held Fluke meters for example are unreliable at for readings of 1 ohm or less, and this isn't including the resistance of the leads, the contacts and the banana plugs.

Then, let's not forget temps......

I agree with the bad connection suggestion...my heads are also from DV and one out of the 5 pack I got didn't seat all the way down into the Protank base and the connection was wonky when I put it on some of my devices...

It worked on some because of the design of those devices center pin, just made contact better....so I'm just leaving it on my Vamo V2 until I use up this coil.

I had the same thing myself yesterday.
I've had my Protank for about a month now, it's always showed at 2.5 -2.6 ohms on the Vamo. I do have an ego beauty ring on the Vamo though, cos I find it helps tighten up the draw better than the Protanks beauty ring.
Anyway yesterday, took a draw, only got a small amount of vapour at 8 watts, so checked the ohms - 9.9.
Turned out my Wife had knocked mt set-up over and not said anything.
I gave the Protank a flick, back to 2.6 ohms. Did a proper check, bit of condensation on the positive pin and the tank had slackened off a bit. Think I'd better get a 510 connector :D
Changed the atty later on, the old one was badly gunked up.
So it looks like a combo of everything caused the problem, but mostly being knocked over probably moved the coil.

I'm about just fed up with the Protank anyways - the coils only last me a few days each if I'm lucky (sometimes only 1 day), they only hit good and produce good vapor/flavor half the time if that, and they leak a little bit into my battery post.. The T2 was the first tank I ever tried, and still one of my favorites - it consistently gives good thick vapor and flavor, and the wicks usually last me 2 weeks at least, it's always consistent

WAM! Wonky - get a Provari

Come on people give someone a break once in a while.

eVic takes an instant Reading on connection. i.e. as soon as the Neg. and Pos. make any contact. If you screw a tank on slowly, it is still loose(POOR CONTACT) when read.
Second issue - Kanger Coils - Using a meter to Verify, Kangers coils read high until used for a while and broken in. over time the ohms reading will drop some. I would imagine other coils of the same type wire do the same thing.

For accurate coil readings on the eVic simply turn it off before changing devices or screw the new device down with a quicker twist.

Personally I have no plans to buy another device just to see if my 2.6ohm coil is really 2.5 when in actuality it may be 2.586ohms

Heat also often changes a coils reading a point or two.

Iv had a few problems with protank heads and resistance readings, I think in most cases the cause was the negative leg of the coil, it goes down the out side of the center insulator and gets clipped off, sometimes the left over nubbin sticks out and causes a short and I get 9.9 ohm reading. Check out the bottom of the head, if you can see any wire nubbins sticking out clip them off as short as you can.
