Hello,

So I have recently been using cotton wool for my flavour wick. Got an EVOD tank with silica coil.

Made up new cotton flavour wick last night. Was using it last night okay and had loads of vapour, but this morning I'm getting hardly any vapor or taste. I went to have a look and I can see burnt patches on my cotton flavour wick.

I've used cotton for flavour wick for a couple of days before and it has been fine.

What is wrong? Why is my cotton flavour wick getting burnt? When I do get a drag it's very harsh.

Thanks

Hi

Cotton burns at a low temperature, like wool. Have you ever gone to Wales on holiday and lit a sheep?

If you are using regular cotton wool from a chemists, it might not be consistent in how it burns. It wasn't originally designed as a wicking material. You might consider trying a higher grade cotton, like Koh Gen Doh, or rayon.

Hello Thomas!

One thing I wasn't sure of is if you are re-doing the entire wick, or if you are just adding on a replacement flavor wick on top of the existing silica?

I am not personally familiar with the Evod coils (I know, shame on me!) but with other "factory" coil assemblies I've found that too much cotton can actually impede the flow of e-liquid to the coil area.

Whether you are rebuilding the entire coil or just adding on, try experimenting with different amounts of cotton, often less is more when it comes to cotton.

And as The Ocelot suggested, if you continue to experience issues with the cotton that you are using, try switching to a different material. I would suggest at least looking for organic cotton - or moving to something along the lines of Koh Gen Do. One of the benefits (in my opinion) is that the fibers run parallel to each other, allowing for better wicking and liquid retention. A step up would be a fiber like Rayon, and it can be purchased in bulk quantity for relatively cheap.

Thanks guys.

No I'm not that advanced, one step at a time.

Just redoing the flavour wick, not the coil.

I've been using 100% cotton. Not heard of the others you've mentioned in thé Uk

You have to get organic cotton balls or any of the Japanese organic cottons--far superior to ours, IMO. Amazon carries several varieties, they are all very good. You can also get Koh Gen Do cotton from Sephora.

Amazon.com: koh gen do cotton

But the main thing is keep it wet--and to not use too much!

Okay thanks . Shall have a look when I finish work.

I always make sure cotton is wet.

I would just use silica wick, but I like to change flavour wicks between flavours.

Most vape shops sell silica. Just buy some, unravel it, cut to size, and you now have lots of new silica flavor wicks.

Addition: Laugh all you want, but I actually ironed the individual strands before I cut them in small pieces.:D

I change flavor wicks in my Kanger clearos often and I use a simple silica rope, too. Sooo easy.

I have a lifetime supply of silica rope from my old top-coil clearomizers (ViVi Nova, iClear) that I will never use... hate those things.
