Well, I have a few drippers now and am very new to coil building, but gosh gee whizz, so much EASIER to build a deck on the RDAs. Vector, revolt, stumpy, got em first time and they weren't AWFULLY bad looking coils.

Seems that with my KFL+ it takes 2 attempts - at least - to get the wee coil mounted and by the time I have done jiggering it, I always get a higher ohm than I wanted. Anyways, at least tonight I managed 1.6 aiming for 1.4... much better than the previous 1.9/2 aiming for 1.5.

LOL. Sigh. Oh well, it tastes delicious, and I really do like the KFL but man oh man is the coil and wicking stuff hard for me.

Don't know how long this one will last, but at least I was within .2 ohm of where I wanted (!)

And to give a contrast my first build on the stumpy (RDA build 4 total of my life, with no mangled coils or aborted attempts)... Guess its just the size and scale of the coils and posts(?)... Not that it is a Grandmaster of coils but in comparison...

Have fun with the building and wicking! Not bad for the first few tries, you'll get it down soon after practice.

It's good you managed to get the coils mounted, the space on most RDA's and how it's wicked lends hand to it being much easier for sure. You may have read it some where, but the coil position is crucial is getting the best possible vape. The KFL build is good since the coil naturally wants to sit over the air flow. Some RTA's have more complex ways of mounting a coil and for the most part require more attention to wicking. RDA building and wicking is much easier for sure, but the legs on your RDA could use some practice.

You want shorter wire legs (leads) when the coil is mounted. What you can do is place the drill bit or coil mandrel in the coils and screw down the coils once you have them tighter to the posts and as centered as possible. Once the posts are tightened you can still slightly stretch the coil legs outwards from the posts by using the drill bit or mandrel to pull on. Some screw drivers (the small eyeglass type) we use as coil diameters have a little lip you can use you to push the coil to either side to center it too. You can also hold them with pliers and pull to either side, but this can ruin the coil if you squeeze too hard.

The other option is to bend the wire legs with a few 90 degree angles to get that centered look.

This all relates to how the air is going to hit the coil and where the wick tails are going to sit. Good luck and stick to it!

I'll reveal the secret. Go to Harbor Freight and buy their numbered drill bit set. I recall paying about 18 bucks or something like that. Make sure it includes at least #50 through #20. Each bit is a little bit bigger as the number decreases. If a coil has too little resistance, try the next bit down, too much, next bit up. You'll end up with coils at your target without having to fuss with leg length.
