Many thanks to D_struct and Madog for their help putting together my Detonator mod. This thing is a beast and it was well worth the learning pains of putting it together. My biggest challenge was finding a way to ground out the atomizer connection. I tried the multiple point solder from the circuit board but I wasn't getting a solid enough connection so I simply extended the ground wire from the switch a bit more to make a better connection. I've got a few more flashlights and some different batteries on the way so I'm sure this is the first of many for me. I think this is mod number 5 for me and the addiction isn't going away any time soon!

obi-wan would be proud , good job..

Thanks! It's a big sucker so it's definitely not for those who want a discrete vape. Definitely not airplane friendly!

This thing hits almost too hard so I just had to mix up a new batch of ultra low (almost zero nic) e-juice just so that I don't OD.

..so from now you will spend more time modding than vappin'

The funny thing is that recently that's been exactly the case! I'm a low/no-nic vaper but a chain vaper normally but I've probably spent more time on mods than actually vaping of late. I think how much I've spent at Radio Shack is closing in on how much I've spent on actual e-cigs! Crazy...

sigh... success is fleeting... it's not working again. grounding the negative is still giving me headaches. i re-wired it, checked everything with the voltmeter, and everything going to the atomizer connection is working properly but not when i put an atomizer on it. I guess it's back to my trusty hi-liter mod for now while I sulk.

How is the wiring done to the switch? Did you shorten one of the switche's posts?

Are you making sure that the battery isn't making contact with the ground wire or the post?

Yeah, I shortened one of the posts like your instructions said and ran the ground wire outside the pvc via a notch. I'm pretty sure that the bottom half of the mod is perfect and something is going wrong with the top half. The multimeter is telling me that the circuit is completed at the atomizer when the button is pushed so I'm at a loss. Dang, and it was working so well up until that point!

Hmm. I'm at a loss.

I have no doubt you'll get it figured out.

Well what my problem was, the center prong on the connector wasnt making contact with the atomizer. I accidentally mounted it a tiny bit too deep. If your using a torn apart battery connector you can pop the center post out quite easily, it clicks in there like a button on a jacket. I pulled mine out with an allen wrench inserted in the hole and wiggled back and forth. Had to make it flush with the top of the threaded bit for good contact, super glued it into place. One easy way to test is to pop it loose and screw an atomizer on, if you can get a hit there you go. Mine worked for a while then nothing at all.

This is certainly something to look at.

Whoo hoo! I'm back in business. It was the strangest issue but I found it. I was using pretty stiff hookup wire for the wiring and when I compressed the wire into the upper housing, the wire actually snapped inside the rubber sleeve and was not providing consistent contact for the current. I knew I wasn't wiring it incorrectly! :D I simply rewired the upper portion with the tiny wires from an old telephone cord and I was back in business. I was so confident that I even went so far as to retry using the circuit board contact with the case so that it was a cleaner mod. Works like a charm and vaping like crazy again!

Oh and my AA and AAA sized lithiums just arrived from dealextreme and I have a few more flashlights coming in the mail tomorrow so now that the magnum monkey is off my back, it's time to have some fun!
