Ok guys... sorry it took so long to post pics - the wife stole the camera, took it on vacation, and left the battery and charger at the hotel. Long story short, I just got another battery. As I posted before, my 801 Magnum Clone is made with using a coax cable splicer. For the positive connector, I tinned a wire and slid it through the splicer. Also, for those of you who want to set it up with the actual battery connector (the way madog does), you'll need to remove the black ring at the base of the atomizer... this is easily done with a set of pliers. You'll see what the atomizer looks like in one of my pictures below.

what atomizer are you using with the coax
my coax does not fit the RN and 801 atomizer threads.
i'm in europe, could it be the coax have different threads?
i tried the coax connector from my humax sat receiver.

that splicer connection looks very interesting indeed, but that wire protruding out looks a little scary to me. Also that bit about removing the black ring is a great tip, but it also scares me a bit. I can only imagine myself ripping out all the guts out of my atomizer in an attempt to do this. But I suppose it would be safer to peel off the ring instead of pulling it out.

On another note, does anyone know where I can get those springs like at the end of the romisen rc-a8 switch?

Hi Madog,

I wanted to write 4 days ago but I was buzy with "trogs behavior" thread....

Ok, I put 2 batteries on the SD, like you did on your mod. I open the SD and I connect the SD's battery thread to an 901 atomizer with a wire, and with a second wire I connect the two parts of SD's opened body. I inhale and big smoke came out for one time. There was no second time because the atomizer get dead. Why? the volts? 3,6x2=7,2. But you said that 2 batteries will not be harmful the atomizer. Maybe I understand wrong, can you tell me what's going on?

thanks a lot

It is an 801 atomizer. It only grabs about 2-3 threads; but enough to secure it. I took the atomizer to a hardware store with me. Some coax brands had a better fit than others.

I admit that it is in a very "rough" form; it's ugly as hell. This first attempt was more of an experiment. I ripped an old atomizer apart to check for any issues with it snagging; there is nothing to worry about. The wire itself (a) isn't long enough to get anywhere near the coil and (b) it is too thick to get to the coil. That being said, I am working on a "cleaner" connection so I don't end up hurting myself with the atomizer off! :D

You are officially on my list of individuals that are in risk of giving me a stroke in anticipation :p. Shocking myself or burning a hole in my pocket was something I was worried about with that wire. Very nice work and continue your R&D!

Nah... get some duct tape (to protect the finish), and two sets of pliers. grab and clamp down on right above the black collar of the atomizer. Get the second pair of pliers and lightly grip the black collar just tight enough to twist it off. Very easy. I did it with 3 atomizers with no problems.

I keep eyeing up my ultrasonic rechargeable toothbrush as a candidate for an experiment at modding......3V..is the voltage we need isn't it???

NO! You Need a Minimum of 3.5 Volts OutPut, 3.7 Volts is what it is rated & should be used at (except pro-mods) with a minimum of 750 mAh, 1000 mAh is really what it needs.

If you don't know what this means please don't do it....

Well as I say my freshly charged batteries are only managing to hold 2.7 to 2.8 volts and they are still managing to power my atomizers...so I would have thought a three volt power supply might work.

Actually I thought my toothbrush was 3 volt but it is 3.6 ....unfortunately only 600 mah so it wouldn't hold it's power for long.

Yes it will work, but not for what it is designed for, so you will be getting less smoke & less complete burning, in other words your driving an 8 cylinder car on 6 cylinders....

I have tested all my mod(s) (12 mods to date) voltages and know what is required, have experimented with many different voltages, with & with resistors and other.

Please take no offense, if you read maddogs / jaaxx or bastage's post's you will understand, they are very good at explaining.

Good Luck & Keep Building!

Are you sure about that Imeo ...because I have tried testing all my freshly charged batteries and only get a reading of 2.7 to 2.8 volts...that's why I thought it must be 3v

Pete, I thought that you asked about the theoritically battery volts. Madog said that has never had a problem with 2 batteries 3v each.

And he said that 5,1 volts are the volts that device works, because the batteries loose very quick their full charge.
