I have kids in the house so portable and locking are 2 very important things I've been considering since I recently started DIY juice. I looked at all kinds of things like cosmetic cases, storage bins, essential oils kits, etc. Nothing came close to what I wanted.
My criteria:
Less than $50
Portable and Lockable
Keeps all the liquids secure and upright
Easy to organize
Seemed easy at fist but it wasn't. It required a lot of thought. I don't like building organizers. Building walls yes. Building organizers...blech
I've read others posting the same questions about storage because they have kids too so I hope this helps get the gears spinning for others facing the same challenge.
Materials:
26" Husky Tool Box from home depot: $20
1" / 2" / 4" foam pieces from a fabric store odds and ends bin: $10 ( i have tons left over. its hard to find small foam pieces)
Foam board from paint store: $5
Glass Jars from paint store: $5
Spray adhesive from paint store: $5
Combo lock: free, who doesn't have one laying around the house?
I cut all the foam with a razor sharp fillet knife. I'm sure there are other techniques that look prettier but function over form and quick and easy is how I think.
Once i cut the foam pieces and all the holes, I used spray adhesive on a cut piece of foam board and glued to the bottoms of my green foam for support.
I particularly like using my little working tray. 5 flavors and working size bottles of pg/vg/nic nice and secure. It's really easy to pull out of little clear glass bottles with pg/vg/nic. I use 100mg nic most of the time so it's reassuring that the bottle is secure and small at the same time.
The removable top tray that came with the box is perfect for syringes, needles, pipettes, etc. Love it.
The only think left to do is to label all the tops of the flavors so I can easily see what I have.
Hope this helps fellow DIY'ers struggling for cheap easy storage.
