rounding third and heading home...
I'm fairly certain I've finally figured out why my coils are going bad so fast and why after just a few minutes vaping with a new coil the taste goes from good to bad. I'm drawing way to hard. I must be drawing so hard that my poor little coils aren't able to keep up and end up singing the wicks or something creating the bad taste. I'm having a hard time adjusting to gentle draws, it just feels so foreign. On my ciggies I would draw pretty hard and now I'm not sure how I should be drawing on my e-cig. Any suggestions? I've read the thread for newbies on how to draw but just how gently must I treat these things?

how about change your draw and see if that helps- otherwise stock up on coils. just a suggestion.....

My coils for the vivi are 1.8 ohm and I'm using anywhere from 3.2 to 3.6 volts on my ego twist. Anything higher than that volt wise and I get a burnt taste on all of my juices but one, which is a tobacco flavor. I have noticed that the first draw on my vivi is the best tasting. So I figured with the way I suck after that first draw, with me sucking hard, I must be affecting the coil. I figure with my first draw the wick must be nice and wet but after the hard sucking I must be drying out the wick. What I don't understand though is this...even with a hard draw if I let the wick soak in between draws I should still be getting decent flavor. So I have to be ruining the wick or damaging the wire.

Try higher resistance coils and keep the voltage low. I put a new coil in a Kanger T3s last week that was metering 2.0 ohms. Anything beyond 3.2 volts with that coil was overkill when new. It was producing tons of vapor at 3.2 volts and didn't need any more. With these VV batteries, just because you can run a device at higher voltages doesn't mean it's a good idea.

with a vivi nova, if you want to smokestack it, turn it upside down after you fire it, i dont mean completely upside down but before you hit the button tilt it so the wicks/head are under the fluid. when taking a long draw this way the fluid is drawn in from the vacuum and keeps the wicks soaked pretty good. watch busardos older reviews and you can see this, he makes sure the wicks stay pretty wet when he hammers his nova's..

you might be a perfect candidate for a bottom coil style tank.

Vivi Nova - Vision or copy?(Probably copy)
Empty tank. Unscrew tank
Rinse and lay aside
Remove silicone cap from coil
Remove any loose flavor wick and rinse in Hot water or soak in Vodka/alcohol, then rinse
Rinse Coiled wicks under HOT water - or soak head in alcohol, then Rinse
Dry Coil wick by pinching with Paper towel
Place Base with coil installed on battery
Turn power to lowest setting
Do 5 second Pulses until Coil Glows orange.
Repeat until Wick is White, blowing off wick between pulsed.
Install any Flavor wicks and lightly fit Silicone Cap.

**** If Cap pinches wicks they will NOT wick properly!!!
a V can be cut at the wick points to allow less pressure.

Install Tank
Fill
Try again.

1.8ohm coils 3.70 Volts or lower - except for some tobacco flavors.

Kanger Bottom coil tanks - if getting dry/burnt hits - Clean and Remove one of the 2 flavor wicks.
Test
If leaking occurs - reinstall the wick

Thank you crxess, nothing better than a step by step easy to understand break down! There are two things I need clarification on...are all wicks in the vivi coils flavor wicks? If not, how to tell the difference? And to put the flavor wicks back in...do you just lay it over the top of the coil or will I need to some how get it threaded back inside the coil? That must be difficult?

Re: Flavor wicks. Throughout my reading here at this forum I've seen flavor wicks mentioned and this has been an area of confusion for me. Is a flavor wick something you purchase that actually has flavor to it? I did a search on flavor wicks about two days ago and wound up empty handed. Nothing explaining what a flavor wick is. I'm going to search again now because I don't get it.

Some Clearomizers have replaceable "heads". Some of those heads when you take them apart have Wicks that lay on top of the heating coil. THose are flavor wicks. The wicks that are threaded through the heating core are not flavor wicks.

Protank and Evod heads come to mind on "Heads" that have flavor wicks.

Flavor Wick - Additional Wick placed Above the coil
Allows Extra E-liquid to be drawn to the coil area
Enhances Flavor By passing Steaming e-liquid through unheated liquid.
Stops e-liquid Spattering in the Mouth piece
Keeps excess e-liquid from escaping past the coil and down to the battery

Flavor wicks can be found in both top and bottom coil configurations.

ETA - sorry for delayed response. Ended up with a house full of unexpected company.:glare:
