My e-juice starts tasting like crap towards end of day! Any Help?

Hi Gang,

Well, it's taken me a couple of weeks to finally figure out (kind of)
what's going on with my e-juices... or more accurately, me!

I started mixing my own juices about 4 weeks ago, and it's
been fun. BUT, it's been a strange experience too. I would mix a
juice and give it a try, and I might like the taste of it until later
in the day, it would start tasting like crud. By bed time, I would
hate most of the juices I had mixed.

Rather than go into some long drawn out story here, I will just say
the following...

I had mixed together a blueberry mix, a strawberry, and a couple
of others that I liked enough to try again. By days end yesterday,
I had made up my mind that I was finished vaping because the
juices just tasted so bad, and it seemed this way everyday. It
always starts out good, but by the end of the day, pure crap!

Well, shortly after getting up this morning, I had 5 or so carts
sitting there in front of me, all different flavors I had mixed, so I
picked one up and gave it a go. Wholly cow, did it ever taste good!
I thought to myself "what the *&$# happened here? So I try another,
and same thing, tastes awesome!

Well, I kind of forget about it, and go about my day, vaping along
like I own the world, no problems until about 3 or 4 o'clock this
afternoon. Suddenly, my juices are starting to taste bad again. Well,
as the night progresses, they are tasting worse and worse until I
can almost not vape them now because they taste so bad to me.

Well, I got to thinking about it, and it seems this is the daily process
everyday. Well, it CAN'T be my juices! It has to be ME! Juices just
are not going to start going bad, then be great again in the morning,
every day.

So, I've come to the conclusion that it has to be something with me.
For some reason, the later in the day it gets, my mouth and tongue
just start tasting like crap. When I vape in the evenings, it's like I
filled my mouth with dish soap or something, it's just bad!

So, does anyone else have this issue? If so, have you discovered
something that helps or changes this into something better?

Is there something I can add to my juices that will help get rid of or
cover up the "soapy" kind of thing that starts happening later in the
evening?

Just FYI, I use TPA, & LorAnn flavorings, and my PG/VG/Nic comes
from RTS Vapes.

Here's something kind of funny though...

...the very first ever mix I created was a mix of 60/40 PG/VG, with
7mg nic, and added 7% TPA Tobacco Blend PG, and it was and still
is my favorite tobacco mix to date. Here's the funny thing... it doesn't
taste bad in the evenings. I can vape that stuff 24/7 and do not have
a bad experience with it.

So, if anyone is having or has experienced this and maybe you've
found a solution (besides giving it up, I can't, I really do love it :) ),
please feel free to post with any help, info, input you feel like offering.

Hopefully, we can figure this out!

Thanks,
Patrick

Sounds to me like you're using too much flavor :(
What kind of percentages are you using?

Well, I can't taste real well, so most of my mixes are in the 20% to 30% range.
I kind of was wondering that as well. But I have found, and is really bad with
fruit flavors for me, if I don't mix up around 20%+, I cannot taste them anyway.

If this turns out to be the problem, then that's not a good thing for me. Might
have to vape fruits in the morning, then do tobaccos later in the day. But hate
to go without a fruit flavor, they're so good. :)

I have the same thing happens some times, but not limited to evenings.
its like any flavor or any carto/addy i try, they all taste burnt juices.
but at a later time, everything is good again.
I went so far as to soak all my addies in vodka to clean them out and popping open new cartos, but it was always the same burnt taste no matter what until a few hours later
I have no answer for you but your not alone

This might sound stupid but it happens to me sometimes. I drink lemonade and it goes away. Idk why.

I have to try that!

Patrick, you may have guessed by now that it isn't just you. I find that having some complete different flavors over the day helps but isn't foolproof. Some people say that vaping menthol helps but I haven't tried it.

OK, tried the brushing idea, and it actually made things worse for me.
Guess I will have to just wait for morning when things are good again.

I've been rethinking my mixture levels after reading Bostonsnboxers
post. I talked with my wife about it after reading that, and she seems
to think the same thing.

I guess, at least for me, one of the things that I get confused on, is
all this talk about "tasting" flavors in our vapes, when in reality, it's
more of a smell sensation that it is with a "taste". I've only had a couple
of flavorings that I could actually taste, and one of those is the
Cheesecake flavoring from TPA. I also get a little "taste" from the TPA
Tobacco PG, and a couple of others, but by and large, what I really
get from flavorings is a kind of after-thought smell sensation in the
old nostrils.

So, I think I'm going to pick one of my favorite flavors tonight before
bed, and cut it down in percentage, then try it tomorrow and see what
happens. I'm going to hate doing that, because my strawberry cream
mix is an incredible experience. But maybe after giving my taste buds
and nose a break tonight, and starting fresh in the morning, maybe it
will be better than I think.

I have to start approaching this "flavoring" thing as a more of an after-
thought "smell" thing instead.

Will give it a shot and see what happens.

First off make sure you stay hydrated through out the day. PG & VG will suck the moisture right out of you and your buds. Secondly, if you have just recently quit "leaf burning" your taste buds will take time to repair themselves. In a few months you just might be suprised how much you were missing out on.

What you decribe is what the definition of overflavoring to me is .

When you make a juice and its good right away and goes bad its because when it has time to steep the flavors get stronger and fall right off the overflavor cliff . When i make juices i just want to get a hint of what the juice is going to taste like . The next morning after a little steeping it becomes stronger and full flavored .

I tend to vape different things at different times of day. I mostly only do tobaccos and mint/menthol.

For *me* I have found that in the morning I am much more sensitive to sweet, so what tastes a bit too sweet in the morning is good in the evening. I also tend to get in the mood for menthols and mint more in the evening than during the day.

I have noticed that drinking something a little sour or astringent (like diluted wine or beer) makes me much more tolerant/resistant of sweet (but alas not of the "sugar" taste of EM).

Maybe you should try to mix some liquids so that you taste them late in the day, and then keep different AM and PM liquids?

ETA: I won't comment on the flavouring levels, since I am very weird and unevenly sensitive there.

Ok...I just reread your op and you're saying that the ones that taste like crap to you the next day taste fine...sorry, I missed that the first time. If that's the case then too much flavoring likely isn't your problem.

I have at least 2 flavors (2 pvs and multiple cartos with different flavors...sometimes even different nic concentrations) sitting in front of me at all times. Usually a sweet desert type flavor...something rich, and a lighter fruit/citrus or cola flavor...something light, and I switch off between them. I've always done this because frankly I can't think of a single flavor that I want to taste all day long, everyday.

Isn't it cool that we went from burning tobacco leaves to even having the option of the vast array of flavors?! :) Try skipping around..??

I have the same problem with wacky taste buds even after 2 years. Figure it's just something I have to live with for smoking 40 years and causing irreversible damage. Sometimes I can use a mouth rinse with mint and that will restore them for awhile. Eating also helps, seems to bring them back to life. If I vape something with mint as soon as the flavor drops that keeps it from getting too bad. If I didn't switch off with several different flavors throughout the day it would be much worse. Vaping a fruit then when that starts to taste blah I switch to a chocolate and when that starts to taste blah I switch to vanilla and so on. If I have a heavy vape day it's harder to restore them and usually have to just wait until morning. Don't give up just customize your vaping habits to work around this dysfunction. :)
