My eCig Journey Guide for beginners with photos and reviews

Hi All,

wanted to add a bit of a guide here for products in the UK market and my experiences from my very first starter kit that was bought about 6 weeks ago.

Initially, I really wanted to quit smoking, but after all my attempts through my GP - just couldn't be bothered to make the effort to find and register with a stop-smoking clinic again. I'd noticed people smoking these weird things hanging round their necks and when I was at a carboot sale I noticed them for sale - so plucked up the courage to go and ask about them.

To my surprise a starter kit was about £8.00 and the liquids were £2.50 each in the iBreathe range.

To my disappointment, there weren't any I could try. But for such a low output of money I decided to chance it and give them a go.

I was pleasantly surprised and over a week or two weaned myself completely off my 30 Marlboro Lights a day.

I was really enjoying this ecig but found myself moving back to cigarettes and panicking when the battery ran out, I was left without my nicotine fix.

At the next carboot sale, I bought an extra battery. It worked fine, I had my second small 900mA battery and on my third carboot visit I bought another 900mA.

Unfortuntaely and much to my distress, it didn't work!! After trawling YouTube videos I managed to find a video that showed how to take my battery appart. I did so and found a loose wire.

I tried to resolder it, which was very tricky - unfortunately the heat from my soldering iron was so extreme it melted all of the other solder joints, and this is how it ended up.

By this time I was back to smoking my full amount of normal cigarettes for a couple of weeks. Upon realising my frustration at how much nicer eCigs are than real cigarettes, I endeavoured to by a better model.

Upon speaking to a new Vendor at an outdoor market, I discovered that the wicks inside the eliquid tank and the coil only last, from what I was told about 1-3 weeks depending upon how much you use it!! That would explain my gradual return to normal fags. I eventually bought an 1100mA battery that worked, because I tested my tank on it at the market - something I recommend to anyone buying spare batteries.

Right.. I need several batteries, and multiple cheap tanks that cost me about £2.50 per tank.

I also ventured onto a fruit flavoured eLiquid. I bought a Banana and a Strawberry in medium strengths (18mg) and absolutely loved them.

It wasnt until after Id bought my new tanks that I noticed one of them didn't work for very long. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the wicks were different from one tank to the next. Some had 2 strands per side of the coil, others had 3 or 4 and they were also different lengths, some very short - some right to the bottom of the tank.

IMG_2328.jpg

Eventually I saw a much better, totally different model that was more expensive, and I told better. The liquid pours in from the bottom so the wick is continually soaked in liquid, and the coil was replaceable at a cost of £2.50 meaning it would be cheap to change every couple of weeks. The other added bonus was the even bigger 1300mA battery.

Unfortunately I experience leakage and gurgling of the liquids in all of the above tanks.

Another downfall with the bottom filling tanks was that when unscrewing it from the battery to refill, you could easily and accidentally be unscrewing the bottom end cap/coil from the actual tank - allowing the eLiquid inside to flood out everywhere.

After a few weeks on this new tank and battery - I finally decided to visit a shop I knew of in Wellington/Tamworth that sold only e-Cigs. The ones with the LED dispalys that looked really huge and expensive and I thought cost about £60.. I was ready to make the investment.

Nice write up...
Those look like kanger pro tanks...they usually don't leak/gurgle...interesting
How tight do you snug down the coils on the base cap

Give it a whirl on trying to re-solder or find someone better at it...a 30 watt soldering iron and a steady hand should do

Also go check out the library...not as in depth or educational as yours...but it should answer some questions you may be having

The ECF Library

Can you guys get shipments from Hong Kong in the UK?
I recommend you go check out fasttech if you can...even though it may take a month to get the eGo batts...they probably cost 1/2 as much as the smoke shops charge

Hello, Jon, and Welcome to ECF. And congratulations on quitting smoking.

I must say that I personally have been very pleased with my eGo starter kit, and have purchased several as backups to my backups. I've also purchased extra CE4s and CE5s, as well as a couple non-VV ego batteries. I have noticed a difference in wick length on some of the CE4s, and I try to find the ones with the longer/full-length wicks. The only leakage I've found on the CE4s was the ones with the springs, so I won't be buying them again. And I've noticed the CE5s leak after a while, so no more of them either. But otherwise they get the job done, and really, that's all I care about! LOL! I'd love to get some of the new toys that are all the rage, but I'm on a severely limited income now that I'm retired, so I can't really justify the expense. So congrats on quitting smoking, and good luck to you! (Good pics, btw)

Welcome to the eVic!!

All singing, all dancing, programmable, updatable variable voltage electronic cigarette!! lol :rickroll:

Well, after using it for a while - I had nothing to complain about at all. Except for the occassional bit of eLiquid that found its way onto my lips somehow.

After deciding to do this post, I took it apart and checked all aspects for other new members.

The tanks holds a hefty 3.5ml of liquid, double what my previous tanks held which was nice.

IMG_2351.jpg

Upon closer inspection of the battery connector on the tank, I noticed it was 100% sealed - perfect I thought - why the heck aren't all tanks like this.. anyway, it NEVER leaks onto the batter.

IMG_2353.jpg

This tank that came with my eVic is called the Tornado RCS.

Again, it has replaceable coils and is a bottom filling tank. The Coil I have in mine was upgraded to a 3.0 ohm coil. Meaning it can handle the higher voltages of my new variable voltage eCig without burning the coil out too quickly giving me a better vape off my liquids.

IMG_2363.jpg

After noticing the eLiquid on the mouthpiece, I removed it simply by pulling it off (no thread), and tipped it upside down.

To my suprise there was absolutely no leakage whatsoever.

IMG_2361.jpg

There was however, some liquid on the bottom of the mouthpiece that pushes into the tank. I can only assume that the vape from the liquid re-condenses in the mouth piece and runs back down/makes it onto your lips very occassionaly.

IMG_2358.jpg

I also bought some extra 3.0 ohm coils with my tanks.

IMG_2365.jpg

The batteries that were supplied with my eVic were a pink 2400mA battery... Much better than all my previous batteries, but I wanted the best, so opted to upgrade to the 3400mA batteries with a mains charger. The fact that these were green and not pink was also an added bonus lol.

IMG_2368.jpg

The liquids Im burning with my eCig are a new brand I tried from Totally wicked. I got to test the Gold Virgin in their shop along with about a dozen other flavours. It was the closest tasting liquid to my old Marlboro liquids from iBreath so bought a 30ml bottle.

Unfortunately they never had a banana tester, I smelt the bottle and it smelled just as nice as my iBreathe banana. As soon as Id paid I tried it in my yellow Tornado RCS tank, but too my disappointment it was nowhere near as nice.

IMG_2348.jpg

I did however get to taste an unlabelled liquid which nobody could find what it was - is was the nicest thing I've ever tasted.

I left my phone number incase they found out what it was. To my delight I had a voice-mail 2 days later telling me it was Caramel and Banana mixed together - so at least my Banana won't go to waste now, just need to go by myself a bottle of caramel.

Thats all I have to add, if you have any questions, please leave them here and I'll do what I can to help.

I think a lot of the products that you get from car-boot sales are nasty cheap imitations, hence all the leaks and broken batteries. But unfortunately, its where most newbies get their first eCigs from.

All of the clearomizer tank set ups with the air passage through the atomizer and battery connection leave a small amount of fluid on the battery connection with every tank you vape, cleaning the connection to the battery with a Q-Tip or wadded up corner of a paper-towel (Vaper Towel) is recommended. That in the pictures looks to be a bit excessive. It can build up over a few tanks if you do not clean it out.
I have never seen that Tornado RCS but it looks similar to the protanks in the fill method, I am assuming you take it off, turn it upside down and take the bottom off to fill it.
Eacah time you do that there will be a small amount of liquid that makes its way into the center tube, the juice clings to everything. After you fill and replace the bottom you can run a Q-tip down the center tube to soak up what has made it to the center tube. And yes vapor does condensate there as well.

Kudos on cataloging and sharing your experiences!

PS: The little stainless tank in the picture looks like a Kanger Evod, if you get the real deal they are really decent cheap little tanks with replaceable atomizer heads. They will leave a spot of condensation on your battery connector every tank full though.
