No, the battery only drains if you're firing it. As the other said, it's a lock feature, not an "off" switch. It's "off" just sitting there.

A gun is a good analogy here. The click-5-times thing is like safety. Just because the safety is off doesn't mean the gun is firing, you know? It simply means pulling the trigger won't work.

That said, it's still a good habit to get into, at least when you're putting it away or in your pocket. They accidentally go off way more than you'd think...
