I have had my Ego-T attys for weeks now and have cleaned them numerous times just running hot H20 through them... filling it up with water and blowing the water out from tank side and battery side.. Then a dry burn... in 3 to 5 second runs until the hissing sound is almost gone... then vaping again... ZERO problems.. This done using dark FSUSA Almond Pleasure 50/50 mix.. Vape and taste like new... Cleaning time to vaping again is less than 10 min... No muss no fuss...

hey zombie ...so your wick actually had a hat ?
Mine never did , I have a tiny rectangular piece of mesh that is wrapped around the wicking.
a little high of the center of the wick length, kinda looks like a little bead. It holds the wick fibers all together.

I have talked to others that have leaking problems & they never saw a hat either,
I did see the hat video...I can't imagine the hat thing working ...
& it just seems like the wick would "fall out" of the hat....

I wonder if we have different versions of attys ??
I know there are two versions ...

V1 thinner blunt wick needle
V2 wider sharp/angled wick needle (mine)

& I think from everything I have read that.... It is safe to assume that

V1 users have more non wicking (dry hit) issues
V2 users see more flooding/leaking (wick moving) issues

just to share......this is how I clean mine....since it leaked & lost it's wick...

I remove my needle plate, rinse atty under hot running water & then blow thru batt end & wipe inside out w/p.towel ...then dry burn till coil is white (clean) & will glow all the way across within a sec.,blow out again (to remove any ash).. then drop a drop of vg in coil and about 2-3 drops around coil (on the mesh) & make sure wick is stable & wet w/vg if needed & put it all back together (needle plate on tank, push in till clicks) then vape away............

So I think the trick is to know your ego-t . Which you can only do by using it and then cleaning it,when needed ...with whichever way is best for your particular version OR whatever issues may arise......

Hmm.. I've had my eGo-T about 10 days now, and I haven't had a terrible clog yet, but I seem to be blowing it out (from battery side) more than I'd like. and did get juice in my mouth once.

I've cleaned the attys in hot water - I didn't let them dry 24 hours though. I'll try that. What is a dry burn exactly? Drawing without the tank - when activating atty/battery?

Fussing with the wick scares me -

I do need a technique as my husband is still not sold and will abandon ship if he has too many atty issues. If he gets on board - he will become a vaping aficionado.

I'll keep reading what everyone has to say about this issue.

All 3 of my atties are v2.

My wick had a piece of steel mesh at the top, rolled around the wick. I guess it was rectangular-ish when unrolled. I thought that was called a hat... I guess the hat is different?

The first time I removed my wick, the mesh came off... I just opened it up, rolled it around the wick and then pinched it and rolled it between my fingers, and re-inserted the wick into the needle plate. I haven't had any issues with it.

I still have yet to have a single leak on any of my atties, although I have an excess of fluid when I take hard pulls on it (which is normal by design) I'm lucky to not have dropped a wick out of the needle during use/cleaning yet, either.

Honestly, the first time I took apart one of my atties, I was surprised at how hard it was to get the wick out of the needle, it really surprised me that some people have had theirs just fall out, as mine was stuffed in pretty darned tight. Guess that's QC for you :D

just don't hold the button till it sizzles tho ...... you have to hold & count off a few seconds like 3,let off & then 5,let off & then 6 or 7,... then again .... till coil glows red all the way across or you hear the sizzle (if you can't see it)

but you can "pop" your atty if you do it too long ........

Just a quick question. Is there any chance of burning the wick when you dry burn? For some reason that scares me. If there is, I'll probably just pull the needle plate out first.

my ego-t worked great for 7 days till I cleaned it, let it sit in PGA for 15 mins or so & blew it out then let dry over night , reloaded next day

& it started leaking ... after reading http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...iscussion/139915-new-ego-tank-system-145.html for hours & taking my atty apart , I found my wick (or what was left of it) curled up in the coil cup,all burnt up.......

I had BLOWN it thru the needle while cleaning.

So IMHO I would not blow thru any of these attys again with out 1st removing the needle plate, which is very simple to do with needle nose pliers (just pull it out by the needle) & you reinstall the plate by putting it back on the tank & pushing the whole thing back into the atty .......

I now do this if I am having an issue & need to check on my wick, which I have replaced & still can't get just right... this also makes cleaning very easy because you can see the coil to clean it.

When I've used dark colored e-liquid on these, they become so "gunked" up, that it is impossible to blow out through the tank part of the atty. However, when blown out through the battery end, I get so much darkly colored fluid out. After all, the liquid is under the plate, so trying to blow out thru the small battery hole, thru an atty that only has a needle hole takes Superman's lungs :) There are so many ideas/methods of how to clean these attys, I hardly know which way to turn!

As far as removing the plate & needle, it sounds like a scary way for weekly cleaning to me. I must say though, that I've never attempted this method so far and I'm positive a lot of you out there are much more experienced with cleaning ego-t attys! I just wish there was some consensus, either by a manufacturer or the more experienced ego-t users out there!

When I refer to cleaning, I not only mean the removal of excess liquid, but also making them easier to draw. Using a plain alcohol soak does nothing more than to remove some of the excess e-liquid IMO, it doesn't restore that easier draw (at least in my attempts).

If any of you ego-t atty "experts" out there find a fairly simple, virtually fail safe method that restores the hard draw part of this issue, please PM me, as I don't have enough time in the day to read all the various posts related to this issue. I've even read and considered using EM's for this purpose. I really enjoy the ego-t experience, but atomizer maintenance has my head spinning!

Please help me out in this matter as there are so many different methods being posted!

You guys are great and I really appreciate your support! :vapor:

P.S. I just tried pulling the needle and plate out, then doing a blow out... That works great, but when I went to re-set the needle/plate, using a tank and stuffing it down (as the post read), every time I pull out my tank, along comes the needle/plate attached to the end of my tank! Any tips on how to get it "set in place", without it coming out every time I pull out the tank for refilling?
