so im sitting in my car on my way to work and realize i have none of my daily sugar free winter green gum...but i had an idea! my brand new menthol carto opened it up and was suprised by the HUGE amount of minty-ness that came out of it...in the words of ice cube....today was a good day

Mint is supposedly about 60-70% menthol, if i'm not mistaken.

OTOH - Does anybody know the difference between mint, doublemint, spearmint and wintergreen? I think they may be different but related plant species, but not certain.

Spearmint is mostly made of ginger while wintergreen is made of peppermint.

I have spearmint (Mentha spicata) growing right in my garden. There is no ginger. We have wintergreen (Gaultheria) growing here too. It's not a true "mint" and not in the mentha family. There is no peppermint in wintergreen. We had to move our peppermint (mentha piperita) away from the house because it attracts too many bees.

I use the fresh and dried leaves as tea or mix with honey and glycerin and smoked out of my hookah (hookahs don't burn leaves but merely bakes em to get the flavor)
