Hello to another Kansan, oddballzwife, and congrats on the decision to leave smoking behind. I agree with others' advice to not be too hard on yourself right away about quitting 100%; you've made very significant progress already!! I didn't find the cravings to be physical either; but felt kinda "lost" the first few days because my little smoking rituals and routines were no longer in place, and vaping didn't work the same way. The "start" and "finish" of smoking a cigarette, for instance, was kind of a biggie for me. But by now - 4 1/2 + months in - I'm over that. It's not easy giving up that old friend that we so enjoyed (most of the time), but it can be done and vaping makes it immeasurably easier!! You'll make it! Best wishes!

P.S. I wouldn't bug the hubby about it; I'd just do my thing and eventually he may view it differently. You're saving your lungs; he's responsible for his....

Hey bro, I really understand your trouble. I smoked for 27 years, 3 packs a day. I'm in the car business and everyone smokes. My son and I quit together last May using an egoT and a Protank. I decided to open my own ecig shop one month after I quit because it was so easy to quit and I was blown away with the technology. So, I wanted to give you a little advice on what I did to overcome the mental side of quitting. Just say to yourself that you didn't quit smoking, you do still smoke, you just switched to digital cigarettes. You still are getting the smoke (vapor), the taste is 10 times better, you still get the nicotine, you save a ton of money and your health will get better, you'll notice it within the first two weeks of stopping regular cigarettes. My blood pressure was almost 190 and a month after I quit smoking it dropped 60 points to 130!!!
Hang in there man and let me know if you have any questions or need help! Best of luck to ya!

John

My cravings didnt go away for 6 months to a year.

Theres a pretty compelling theory that out of the 4000 chemicals that you inhale from smoking, nicotine is only one of the addicting substances. Based on my personal experience I dont doubt this one bit. I was even sick at the 3 week mark with symptoms I can only attribute to withdrawal from something else beside nicotine. Anecdotal evidence both here and on other forums seems to back this up as well.

Give yourself some time. The cravings lessened for me at 3 months and then even further at 6 months. At a little over a year they are nonexistent and thats with cutting my nicotine down in stages from 24mg to 6 as well.

He has tried mine, but had a frustrated look on his face like I was making him do something and he just wanted me to shut up. I think I've been talking to him too much about me using it and liking it LOL I am hoping he will get one eventually if I am successful.

My bride won't even try to vape. She just heads out to the front porch to smoke, as usual. I don't try and push her, I just ask her how the weather is out there as I sit back, all nice and warm and vape away. I can set her up in a flash if she ever decides. She has seen how drastically so many of my health problems have been reduced or completely disappeared, so I know she knows it would benefit her as well. I could moan and complain about how bad her smoke smells, but I won't because that would just make her bow up like a mule and resist even more. I hope old Odd Ball sees the light as I hope my bride may also one day.

everyone is different so time is a variable. I used to smoke 1 1/2 packs a day but gave it up when I had my first heart attack and started puffing (not inhaling) cigars about a year after, puffed 1 a day and over a 5 yr period it increased to about 3 or 4 a day. when I started the vape habit it has decreased to maybe 1 every two days or so, just so long as you cut the anologs down to minimal its a win win and you may just completely stop one day soon. Good Luck to you!

I was really lucky that the week I decided to quit smoking and start vaping was the same week as the first polar vortex came roaring through. I didn't want a cigarette enough to go outside, clean off the car, freeze my behind off, and go to the drugstore for a pack. And even more luckily, we had miserable cold and snow and more snow and more cold for almost every day of the 3 wk+ since I started vaping. I think that one thing that will help is a good alternative. I started with GreenSmokes and after a week decided that wasn't going to work. I just got an itaste vv3 and the difference is absolutely amazing. The other thing that really was "the bomb" for me is finding a couple of really great tasting juices. The tobacco ones all left me a little cold--I used them but felt like I was doing it so I could quit smoking (if that makes sense). But then I got a sample kit with French Vanilla, tried some Kringle's Curse (peppermint) and Shamrock (chocolate mint) and the world of vaping became a love match, not something I "had to do" to stay off the smokes. So congratulate yourself for even starting down this path and know that when you find the perfect setup and juices for you, it will be so yummy and so much fun that you will wonder why you've been smoking vs vaping all your life!!

So far today I have done well. I have only had 1 so far. I feel like if I tell myself I can't have one then I will just want it even more. Now my DH is still smoking in the house, and it STINKS! I wish he would at least take it outside, but he got an attitude when I just asked him. I cross my fingers that if I do well he will switch too. This site is such a big help, not sure I could do it without the support :)

Don't punish him or give him any hell, just get a huge can of febreze and whenever the smell gets to you give the room about a 10 second blast.

From personal experience, to smokers and non, that sruff will clear the room out just from being horrible in smell and taste if over-used that way.

He will get the message or get into a fight and run off to the bar....

Hang in there - you've got lots of support right here!! Enjoy your flavors and improving health, and try not to bother your DH about his continuing habit, 'cause that won't do much besides create tension between you....

I had half a pack of analogs left when I got my EVOD starter kit for the new year. I smoked an analog, "leftover" from that pack a few days after using nothing but my ecig three days into vaping and found that I had a HUGE craving for analogs. In the days prior (vaping my new EVOD kit only, the urge for an analog was not that bad. Vaping was "doing it" for me.

Keep away from the stinkies. The 4000 other nasty things in cigs seem to cause me more crave issues than just nicotine.

Worked for me anyway. 6 weeks no tobacco now. Very happy former smoker here!

I started out trying disposable one and they seemed ok. The blue was the best so I tried the blue rechargeable and that thing absolutely sucks. There is no way that I could have quit with that thing. But once I gave in and quit trying to use the ones that look like cigarettes and purchased a basic ego mod I said yeah I can do this. It felt very much like a cigarette going down and gave me the nicotine I craved. I had three packs left and an ego. I left the cigarettes and my car and smoked them sparingly as I transitioned to the mod and when the cigarettes where gone I just didn't buy anymore. The first week I had cravings for cigarettes but not enough to make me go to the store and buy some, I had the ego that was all but entirely satisfying my cravings. After the first week I started liking vaping more and more. Now I'm 5 weeks in and I have no cravings at all but I puff the hell out of my ecig. And I bought a nicer model that hits a little harder and Im sold.

I do find that ppl who say "I like smoking" have a harder time. My mom is attempting to do the same and she is an "I like smoking" person. Like you she doesn't want to quit but knows how it affects her health so she wants to. She has cut down but she was surprised that I quit so easily. I was never an "I like smoking" person. I smoked cuz I was addicted, started young and just always did, and yeah there is nothing like OMG I need a cigarette and then getting one but I was an "I'm feeding my addiction" person however I tried to quit for almost 20 years and never could. I had the desire but just couldn't do it, it didn't help being surrounded by smokers. But for me vaping has bridged the gap. I'm still addicted to nicotine and maybe I'll quit altogether some day but for now I have become an "I like vaping" person so I'm not even thinking about it. All I can say is that once you get used to just vaping it really does provide everything you enjoyed about cigarettes but without the cancer. Get through a week or two and it will get easier and easier.
