So I got a spool of 30g left over from the ProTank days, LOL. And a drill that can go really slow. 26 core and 30 on top. Started out at 3mm, but its more like 3.5 once finished. And I had a MX just sitting with nothing in it.

It does`nt do a thing for my high PG tobac DIY, in fact it makes them taste kinda nasty, me thinks its burning it a bit (Duh! LOL). But for my sweet half and halfs, it just might be the ticket. The Jury is WILL deliberate!

Awesome job on the first of what will be many claptons. It might be the 70 watts burning the juice so you may want to turn down the power a bit. My next comment is only a suggestion from the pictures you posted. You might try to keep a little more tension on the 30 gauge to keep the coils tighter to the 26 so that when you wrap the coil, the overall coil remains tighter with less gaps in the clapton outer coil. I've found that using 2 strands of 26 and making a fused clapton helps a bit too. Aside from my critique, you did a fantastic job!

Thanks for the tips Dude. Ya, the first one suffers from all the f-its, LOL.

FWIW, I started out at 40w, so I don`t know, maybe too much cotton. I do know the 50-50 tastes pretty good @ 65-70watts.
I think I`ll try a Scottish roll in it and see if that helps for the 80% PG, I know the SR has done wonders for some of my other regular coils.

Thanks.

Those coils are beauts! In terms of wicking I keep it simple. I peel off the outer husks of my Koga pads on both sides. I do not roll them at all. I twist an end and insert it through the coil and cut off or pinch off just the twisted end. I don't try to roll my cotton AT ALL. They wick like champs this way. I don't soak before I wick. It's messy and it's truly no better than the method I use. Theory or opinion, take it as you will, but *I* believe keeping the cotton as fluffed as possible while you wick it is way more important that soaking it and then feeding it through.

Very nice work VHRB2014, specially for your first attempt :thumb:. I'm going to try it later today with 27 and 34 gauge. I also have a MX V1 sitting here waiting for an experiment. Going to aim for 0.3 ohms and see how it goes.

.3 should be easy to get with the 27 ga. core. I did my first ones with a 26 core and 32 or 30 wrap, can't remember. Not sure if you know or not but after you make the clapton and go to make coils, just count the core for resistance. So however many wraps you use to make a .3 coil with 27, do the same with the clapton.

I think you'll find that a regular coil actually works better than a Clapton coil.

The only circumstances where a Clapton was better than regular was if the regular contact coil was made with really big wire (26 gauge or larger). The Clapton wraps help the vapor vent away from the wick in this case.

I have made almost every kind of art coil and none of them work better than a simple 32-28 gauge coil.

This is currently my favorite.

Triple parallel 32 gauge, 12/11 wrap, 2.5mm ID.

Vapes like a beast at 35W

Vapes much better than this 30/36 Fused Clapton.

Now by all means experiment, I just thought I would share my findings.
