When I went to the store today, I wasn't really planning on buying coffee to bring home and test extractions.....but I can be kind of impulsive.

When I saw the bulk coffee aisle, a light bulb went off in my head, and I knew exactly what I was gonna do.

I started sampling beans, a few at a time, sniffing, prodding etc.
I was looking for something fairly light, and not too oily looking. I figured the oils would reak havoc on my coils.

It was a toss up between kona and kenya aa.
I went with the kenya.
It was light, fruity and the least oily looking out of everthing.
In a former life as a coffee snob, kenya was one of my favorites.

I only bought a small amount, maybe about 1/10 of a pound.
Remember, I wasn't planning on doing this, so I wasn't very prepared.

So I got home and started looking in the kitchen for what utensils I was gonna use in my impromptu laboratory.
I didn't have any pyrex measuring cups or bowls that were clean, so I grabbed a couple coffee cups.
Found my wifes mesh screen tea sphere with the silverware and located a shot glass. Shot glass nicely holds about 30ml.
Also grabbed a spoon.
Dug out my coffee grinder, which we haven't used in a while.
It was caked inside with about a years worth of fine coffee dust.
Cleaned that out with a paper towel, as I was trying to avoid any fine grinds, not sure why, but seemed it would hurt the extraction process. Possibly clog stuff up.
I grabbed a 30ml syringe with a large blunt tip and some organic cotton balls. The same stuff I use for making wicks in my dripping attys.

I had a gallon of distilled water nearby and decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to give everything a thorough rinse with that.
I don't really want to be vaping microscopic chlorine or hard water deposits.

So I put a load of kenya in the grinder and did a fairly course grind on it.
I used the shot glass to measure out the coffee.
It was about 3 glasses full.
Dumped that in one of the coffee cups.
Grabbed my PG and filled up the shot glass 3 times.
That about covered up the grinds.
I stirred it up and it started to soak into the grinds a bit, so I did another shot glass full so liquid was completely covering the grinds.

Edited to add:
My microwave is very weak.....I don't think you'd need to go at it for as long as I did if yours works good.

Into the microwave it went.
20 seconds.
Took it out and it was warm. Stirred it.
Back in for 10 seconds.
Remove stir.
10 more....out and stir.
I stirred it for about a minute.
Then let it steep for about 5 min.
Back in for 10 seconds.
I was trying to keep the pg hot, but not allow it to reach flash/boiling point.

At this point it came out and went into the mesh tea strainer, above a coffee cup.
Once it stooped dripping, I pressed the grinds down with the spoon until they started to look a little more dry.
Maybe a minute or 2.

Next rinse out the shot glass again with distilled water.
Dried well with paper towel.

Next step I spooned the mixture into the shot glass, one spoon full at a time, trying to avoid the thick sediment at the bottom.
I filled it about half way.
At this point, it was starting to cool down a bit, so back in the wave for about 8 seconds.
I wanted the mixture as thin as possible for the next step.

Then I dropped a cotton ball into the shot glass and lightly pressed it into the liquid.
Once it was totally saturated I stuck the tip of the syringe into the cotton and began to slowly extract the concentration.
It was slow going. Maybe 1 or 2ml at a time and it would stop.
After that cotton ball was dry, I chucked it and rinsed the shot glass again.
Did this whole process 3 more times...each time re heating the mixture and using a fresh cotton ball.

In the end I had a 50ml bottle and 2 10ml bottles full of concentration.

I put a dab on my finger and tasted it, I was completely blown away.
All of the notes I chose the coffee for were present, and it almost tasted as if it were slightly sweetened.
I decided I needed to mix up a quick test batch.
I settled on
.5ml tpa vanilla swirl
.5ml tpa white chocolate
1ml coffee extraction
1ml vg nic
1ml vg
6ml pg/vg 50/50 base
3 drops of tpa sweetener

Shook that puppy for about 5 minutes and just had to try it.
Now I know things will change with steeping, for better or for worse, but it knocked my socks off!
The flavor is amazing!
I've tried to make coffee ejuice with commercial flavorings and never really liked any of them.
I've tried a few store bought juices, and none of them WOWd me at all.

Now, I needed somebody else to check my work. My wife doesn't vape....but my building manager does.
So I scurry down to visit him with my mech, topped off with an igo L, fresh wick and battery, filled with my new concoction.
I go into his office and tell him what I've been up to.
He replies telling me " ewww, ive never had a good coffee ejuice" but is willing to try my mix.
The look on his face sold it to me, then he smiles, takes another vape, and another.
After a few more he stops and says, " that's really good".
He's the guy that told me about gennys, rdas and juice mixing just a mere 2.5 months ago when I got into vaping and had just quit smoking.
It was pretty cool that a dude who had yet to find a good coffee vape, and has been doing this for some time, has stoked on this.

I truly feel like I Forest Gumped my way into and through this whole thing.

If you made it through this whole thing, I hope you were either slightly entertained, and or learned something.

If you see anything I did wrong, please point it out.
Thanks.

That's awesome. Nothing better than loving something you make yourself. I did a couple extractions myself. The coffee one was unsuccessful at the first attempt. (too weak) The tobacco ones came out pretty well. I did a process similar to yours, only I didn't do as many pops in the microwave. (I only did 2... but then again, maybe that's why mine was weak?) Wish there was a simpler way to filter than using the stupid cotton balls. I personally found that to be a major P.I.T.A.

Loggerhead, I'll give the cheesecloth a try and report back.

Susan, it is delish!!
So much so that I can't stop vapin it.
Also mixed up a few more 10ml bottles.
1 just for steeping, another as a backup for this weeks vapin and a third one to give to my building manager.
He vaped it yesterday and said it was great in a carto tank.
He did mention that he had some trouble sleeping lastnight....is it related to the coffee, I dunno.
I slept fine and vaped it from noon till bed.

Im really glad I saw your post. I just got some TFA Kona coffee flavor and I think ites going to take a month to steep into something.mixes less than 1% with some caramel malted milk van swirl and a splash of dolche de leche ..The mix smells fantastic except for the kona .I havent tried any of it going to wait to see if it tones down first... I'll be vaping your coffee formula long before this is ready ! lol

Only problem is my coffee grinder is inside my coffee maker and i am NOT gonna use it without water in it... Im afraid of damaging the heater unit... But i do have 500g's of my favorite preground brand... Could use that to make a delicious extract... BUT... How about milk and sugar? :p
