Sorry don't take this the wrong way, but you think 1.12 ohms is a hot vape. Maybe because of how tight the air draw is. If you did 6 wraps of 28 gauge around a 1/16 drill bit that shouldn't be 1.12 ohms that should be around a .5 to .6 ohm coil. You might consider 9 wraps of 28g around a 1/16 drill bit. That coil would be around .9 to 1 ohm coil and if you want you could open the airhole up to 1/16 drill bit size.

I opened my buddies rm2 up for him with my bit and didn't even have to use a drill, just twisted it through by hand and worked fine. A little more air flow and didn't compromise flavor.

1/16" drill bit and 28 gauge wire is great to work with as you get your building feet under you (judging by your first coil, you're good at freehanding with a bit). Since you like a cooler vape, you might want to consider a higher ohm coil, say, 1.4 ohms. That would mean about 10 wraps.

Personally, I try to stick to 8 wraps or less, so with 28 gauge I'd recommend a 5/64" drill bit (play around with the steam engine calculator to see how the relationship between wraps, mandrel diameter, and resistance work). If you're off to the store for bits, maybe consider picking up the 5/64" as well as the 1/16" so you have the option. Not trying to confuse you - just trying to open your mind to the control you have.

Also, you might want to consider the wire coil gizmo at some point. superX has a video on what it is and how to use it (he's a big fan).

You'll be pro at this in no time and you're off to a good start.

I agree with JetMac...something sounds off with your number. 8 tight wraps of 28ga on a 1/16 gives me .9 and 9 wraps gives me right at 1ohm ten out of ten times.

6 wraps should be a bit hotter that 1.1ohm.

Are your post screws tight?

I was thinking this, too, but the coil looks to be a larger ID than 1/16" to me. Could still be the screws, tho.

Coil builds and ohms = the amount of resistance there is for the voltage to run through. Think of it like this, more wire more resistance and less wire less resistance. The diameter of the coil will determine how much wire your using thus changing the resistance of the coil. 6 wraps of 28g around 1/16 will be less resistance than 6 wraps of 28g around 5/64 bit. Fewer wraps and smaller diameter bits will lower your resistance. Also, the smaller the gauge of wire the less resistance and thicker gauge wire has more resistance.

Sorry if this sounds confusing, but just so you know 28g is a good gauge a wire to use and I too like using a 5/64 more than the 1/16 bits. The slightly larger diameter using 28g will increase your ohms and get you closer to the 1 ohm range with fewer wraps, you could try 8 wraps of 28g around a 5/64 bit.

Mmm...gotta love those ugly coils. By far, my favorite coil build in my RM5. Two of those ugly coils, 4 wraps of 24g wrapped around a q-tip. Super easy, warm vape, doesn't gunk as easy, and no need to heat and pinch. People I show laugh at them until I let them try it, then I make them believers.

Good point! I almost forgot.....Ugly Coils vape like champs! .......with my first LP on the way I might have to resurrect them for dual-coil experimentation.

(Sorry for the highjack)

<edit> back on topic, you should watch Rob's video and try an ugly next time you're pressed for time...you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Congrats to you. Isn't it a wonderful feeling? I see you have a happy dog and a happy reo. Life is good. . .

Agree ..... but C'mon have you ever seen a golden retriever that wasn't happy ??

They are the best. I'm 47 and have lived with goldens for over 40 of those years.

I think I'll try to rewick it first, then go from there. Easier to do that than to build a new coil. lol But yes, I will be getting a 5/64 and a 1/16 bit very soon.

Oh and the Golden on my avi is my heart! He passed away in October 2013 at 8 of cancer. I do have another one that was born on the same day Gunner passed. So it's like he was giving me the thumbs up. Samson is a hellion, but a lovebug too! lol
