I generally like my flavors very strong. I've ordered blends from ECblend with double extra flavor and multiple flavors but nothing tastes flavorful enough for me.

And that's exactly why my blogs were discussed. I go over the phenomena of how too much flavoring can result in little to no flavor tasted. It seems counter-intuitive, but it is a truth that most DIY mixers discover sooner or later. (Not that all realize that is what they discovered as they may think there is something wrong with the flavoring.)

I have now read your blogs. Thanks for the great info. What I've read is that with fruit and desert flavors 5-10% is ok, but for tobacco flavors 1%-5%. I have heard chocolate requires even more. This is sorta what I've been going off of till now. I will update this thread and let you know how they come out. No big deal if their bad. Live and learn!

My preliminary batches were very good after a few days of steeping. And they were high in flavor.

What do you consider a maximum total flavor theshold/ratio by total volume (including sweetener)? 15% 20%

Starting percentages are someone's idea of what works for a specific manufacturer's specific flavor and are hard to make into a general statement.

I have fruit/desert recipes that range from 0.35% to 35% and tobacco's that range from 0.5% to 21.5%. I have to have STRONG flavor or I don't like it. And, trust me when I say this, those recipes lower than 1% were the toughest to get right.

Update on my five recipes:

Smell test today, taste test tomorrow (with my dripper).

Tri-Fruit: Smells very nice.

Quad Fruit: OMG! Smells even better. I'm in fruity heaven.

Nutty Banana: Smells OK. Not very strong. Taste will tell.

Quad Chocolate with Caramel: Very rich chocolate smell. Can't wait to vape.

Minty Menthol Baccy: This one was pure experimentation, since I generally don't like tobacco flavors. The mint and menthol are there but not overpowering. Not really diggin the tobaccoey smell though. Must taste to tell.

Whenever I add menthol to a recipe, I typically also add Koolada at 50 % of the menthol amount. The menthol gets you the flavor hit at the front of your mouth, but adding the koolada gets you that menthol hit at the back of your throat. Sort of a way of giving your menthol depth. Just my taste, yours may vary.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have heard about Koolada and it's cooling effect. I am going to get me some, cuz I plan to make a purely mint, menthol, and koolada recipe.

I have a few of those. One variety also has Horehound. A mint-spice-licorice type flavor. Just for variety

Update. After a week or two of steeping I have tasted/vaped my 5 creations. Did not drip, used a tiny T4 clearo and an 808 passthrough for all but one (in which case I used my Vamo V2 and a Smok Pyrex Vivi Nova).

Here are my conclusions ranked best to worst:

1. Tri-Fruit: Easily the best of the bunch! Excellent. Excellent. You can taste the cantaloupe, the watermelon, and the strawberry (but not as much). This is a keeper.
Improvement notes: Not much needs to be done with this, but I might increase the sweetener by 1 or 2 percent. May reduce cantaloupe and melon slightly and increase strawberry, but totally vapeable as is.

2. Quad Fruit: Also very good. Very fruity, better than or equal to my commercial pre-mixed quad fruit custom blend from ECBlend. This is a keeper.
Improvement notes: I might increase the sweetener by 1 or 2 percent and possibly remove one flavor as this is in reality a quintuple fruit blend (Pineapple, Coconut, Peach, Banana, and Cranberry). Note: Upon filling the T4 with this juice the tank immediately cracked! It was an old T4, and may just have cracked due to excessive pressure or wear, but I recommend Pyrex for this one.

3. Minty Menthol Baccy: I was really surprised with this one. I think I got close with the Turkish Desert Blend and Menthol to replicating a Camel Menthol (my old brand). Not bad at all. Menthol and mint are neither underwhelming nor overwhelming. Just right. This is a keeper.
Improvement notes:Increase Hazelnut (couldn't really taste it), decrease slightly the tobacco flavors. Add Koolada.

4. Nutty Banana: Meh! Didn't care too much for it. Seems the nutty notes are overpowering the banana ones.
Improvement notes: I might increase the sweetener by 1 or 2 percent. Decrease nut flavor percentage, possible slight increase of one or both banana flavors. It's not horrible, but couldnt vape it for too long.
[/B]

5. Quad Chocolate w/ caramel: This one was either underflavored or overflavored (possibly leading to what I am dubbing "The Hoosier Effect". Very syrupy (particulary smell-wise), but very little chocolate taste. I am a chocolate hound! But this wasn't doing it for me. Did not compare to my quad chocolate custom blend from ECblend (which is my target).
Improvement notes: I might increase the sweetener by 1 or 2 percent. Might drop a chocolate flavor, lower all flavor percentages, might also add cream or vanilla or something to smooth it out. Can be vaped as is but not for long periods.

Any suggestions arr welcomed. Please note, this is my experience and opinion only. It's all about experimentation. Experimentation. And more experimentation. And having fun!

I would say that for a New DIY-er that you had a Much Better than Average Success Rate. Good Job.

My Only Suggestion would be to continue to Keep Detailed and Accurate Records.

Thanks. I am going post the improvement notes to the recipes pages when I make the improved versions.

I would say that nothing I have made so far was really horrible and that gives me an idea for a contest.
