So I took the plunge today and purchased my first mod... A penny; and smoketech rsst rba. They even threw in two batteries and a charger. I understand that the charger is a bottom of the barrel type, but that's ok, I have a rc hobby charger that will work just fine. I am still waiting for the batteries to fully charge before I get my first official vape out of it. They set me up with a 1ohm coil, to get me started, so we'll see how that goes. I would post some MechMod porn but I'm sure you guys have seen them a plenty.

The initial trial test was average. While my Triton is set up with a 1.1ohm coil, and the RSST is set up with 1ohm, the Triton vapes considerably more. Maybe the RSST needs to be broken in? But, I am happy with the mod overall. I guess it's just an excuse to rebuild the head until I can find the right coil and wick combo. I currently use Halo juice, but I cut it with pure vg.

Congrats!
I recently took the dive into mechs too. Got a 4nine clone. Drippers working good but they heat up fast!
The number one thing I've read is get good batteries and a good charger. A low quality charger could over charge your batteries, causing them to degrade much quicker. I'm sure there is a tie in there for you losing your face too...

My first rebuildable atty's were Genesis-style (tank below/atty above). High learning curve; didn't like using stainless steel mesh as the wick, leaked when not upright, had to tilt the device to get it to wick. Not an out-and-about tank. They're now collecting dust.

I've been using a Kayfun-style (tank above/atty below) which has had a much lower learning curve, using cotton or synthetic cotton (rayon), doesn't leak and isn't position dependent. Excellent out and about tank. Much better design than a Genny and more recommended.

To add onto what Baditude said, genesis-style atomizers were some of the first designs in the RBA world. There have been major advancements in ease of use and functionality since, which is where the Kayfun comes in.

While some would suggest to go authentic, I would say pick up a EhPro KFL+ V2 for $30-40 if your RSST begins to give you trouble and get on your nerves.

Between the oxidation, rolling, cutting style, and cost, SS just pisses me off.

Me too. My first and only gennie is an RSST which is also now collecting dust. Glad I didn't spring for a more expensive genesis. Also tried a couple of Kayfun clones (Ehpro) but those didn't move me either, so I sold both to cut my losses. The only RBAs I have now are a Fogger V2 and V3. Still use both (with cotton) but prefer the V3 for it's slightly more airy draw. I prefer the Foggers to the Kayfuns by a pretty wide margin and they really aren't THAT difficult to build.

Edit: Forgot to add - to the OP - congrats on your new mod :).

Foggers came in today. I picked up the copper and black one.
