Just finished my first actual mod today :D (the puck doesn't count) Made it out of a LED Lenser v6. Currently using 2 cr2's

Don't tell the Gov't, but the support plate at the top, for the atty connection is a nickel... it fit perfectly.

The only issue I'm having is with space... I thought I was going to be able to make room in the head to raise the connection plate a bit, to allot for bigger bats.... all I can fit in there as of now is CR2's. I'm going to be shopping around for a threaded tube that will fit on here to allow for bigger batts, but I have a feeling I'm not going to have much luck. I might order a housing from Lenser if they sell parts like that for their bits.

I'm hearing it isn't smart to stack cr2's, but I'm also seeing there are protected one out there. Should I get these? Is this going to make much of a difference?

YES,, it's a saftey thing. and I would drill at least 3 holes in the bottom so if they do go ballistic they will vent away from your face. Instead of becoming a hand grenade.

BTW,,, cool mod.

It is made from SS, but I have almost no idea as to where to start making my own tank :p It's an idea though.

The flashlight you posted is the 7730, the one I've used is the 7732 If I remember correctly the 7730 is longer in the head by about 1/2' Making it a little more ideal for a cr123 mod. I'll post on how to take the head apart here within the next couple days... And how I'd go about moding this out now that I know what I know. I decided I didn't want to use cr2's so I stripped down the inner workings of the head a bit to raise the contact.... it's a little bit of a mess atm but I'll get it there ^.^

LED-Lenser Coast 7730 Power Chip V6 Flashlight Torch on eBay (end time 23-Mar-11 16:03:50 GMT)
Although not quite as pretty, a flashlight like this may be worth considering.

$6.42 - 5LED 2-Cr123A Flashlight Silver - Other LED Lights

Power
2 x CR123A (3.0V or 3.6V rechargeable or primary batteries are fine)

Seeing as it's a native 2 cell CR123A you'll be able to use more powerful, better and safer cells that the CR2's.
