Here's my first mod, 5v passthrough

I thought I'd start simple and use stuff I had lying around. I found a small optical to RCA passtthrough, a used an old USB cable, a 3A switch, a LED, resistor and a 510 battery connector.

It runs at 4.7v from my PC and 5.1v using a mains USB adapter.

Be careful when plugging a PT into a computer. Most USB computer ports aren't meant to draw the current needed for an e-cig and there is the possibility of damaging the computer motherboard. It is usually recommended to use a mains USB adapter or a powered USB hub when using a direct PT.

That said, that's a dang neat looking PT!! Excellent first mod!

I only did it as I test, I'm using it off a mains adapter.

Seems almost impossible, especially with that long flimsy cable. What carto are you using? Did you measure those volts while firing the carto, under load?

I remeasured under load with a 2.7 ohm CE3 and got about 4.2v, the wire is a bit thin, the wire in the box is 20 AWG, I'm got to replace the wire with something beefier and solder a USB connector on and see if that improves the voltage under load.

In theory if you load a usb port, it could give 5x0.5=2.5 watts power. Some controllers can give more. Anyway if you get 4.2V or 4.9V on USB under load with 2.7 ohms, that means that the controller is good enough but it is obviously overloaded.
I am not shure that this is a good practice.
