Well ya'll...it's seriously different but I must say, I just might be one of those that falls totally in love with this!:thumb:

I purchased my starter set through Vapor Station well after 9pm last Friday the 3rd of July. Received it today in my mailbox via USPS. 2 - Joye510C manuals with reusable carts, e-juice is 'Texas light' and 'Rush' both at 10mg--possibly too light but not bad really--I guess it's too early to tell.

It's still a little metal tasting. I was quite shocked to listen to it "crackle" when I pushed the button a few seconds before I took a drag on it. I filled one cart with the flavor and dripped with the tobacco flavor. The dripping seems to do much better than the cart. Still not a whole lot of vapor for either. Not sure if this is normal or if I'm doing this correctly. Reading about it from ya'll and doing it for myself are two different things.

I set it down once to get some tea and when I returned and used it again I almost coughed up a lung! Major vapor that time. That was unexpected! Is there a certain way I should be setting this down while not in use--but still using, so to speak??

Good start :) As far as 'setting it down' unless you have something on it that would depress the button you could just set it horizontally. When I first grab a cold one I'll do a few 'pipe' or 'cigar' puffs - two or three short draws then open mouth a bit draw some air, close and draw and inhale.... not needed all the time, but you'll just have to find your own method.

Funny you should mention...I only just finished a reply in another message thread that seems related to this. I found a couple of days ago, kinda just by accident, that if I topped up a cart with 'juice' and then let the 510 sit for a couple of minutes -- just laying it down on the tabletop, not standing upright or anything like that -- I got a good deal more 'life' out of the cart before I needed to top it up again. Better vapor, too.

Did you get a passthrough for your 510? That's a useful item. I decided not to power it via the USB port on the computer. Instead, I got a Belkin AC-powered USB hub and I 'drive' the passthrough with that. Great results. (Belkin only because it was the least expensive of the 4-power USB 2.0 hubs that happened to be in front of me in the store.)

Another useful gizmo (this being a 'gizmo-heavy' sort of pursuit :) that an experienced e-cig user clued me into: driving the passthrough with a Kensington portable rechargeable battery. The thing is about 3"x5" by, I dunno, about 1/4" thick. Small. Has a standard USB port for output -- perfect for the passthrough -- and one of those smaller USB ports for input (AC adapter to charge the battery). Works great in cars like mine, with broken cigarette lighters. :) The model number of the Kensington battery is something like 38021 and you can find it on Amazon or in electronics superstores. (Someone told me it sometimes goes on sale at BestBuy -- but I had to have it, like, now. :)

Grats on getting your goodies, I hope they serve you well :)
I have no experience with the 510, but luckily there are a ton of people here who love them! I'm sure they will be happy to help you out with your new baby if you don't find the answers in one of the 510 threads.

And on a totally OT note, if Michele is your real name, you will be the first person I've run into that spells it with one "l" like I do.

I'll be totally honest with you Mikea. I understood less than half of what you just said! LOL:oops: I'm not sure I even know what a "passthrough" is. As for the USB thingie (yes, that's a technical term I use) I do know what that is but do not have one as of yet. I'm still in the trying it to see if it's for me stage. Although, after this evening I'm thinking I'd better start reading up on more "gizmo's" :p So what exactly is the passthrough for?

Welcome Michele,
I don't have a 510, but with the devices I do have, they all need time to wick the liquid from the cart to the atomizer. Even if you are dripping, just a little time to absorb makes all the difference in the world. I usually have 3 units going, and when I pick up the one that's been sitting for awhile, it becomes my new favorite!

Oops. Sorry about that. I got so 'into' these devices that I went from complete-newbie to jargon-user (though not all that experienced yet) too quickly, I guess. Sorry about the jargoneering. :)

A "passthrough" is a device that plugs into the USB port in the computer. It contains what looks like the battery of the e-cig...but in using it, you aren't using the batteries that came with the e-cig at all. Power is supplied via the USB port of the computer (or as I mentioned, a powered USB hub in my case).

The 510's passthrough has an additional rechargeable battery "in-line" that sits inside a little box built into the passthrough. I've heard that the additional battery is required when you use that passthrough -- you have to first charge it up, and then the passthrough becomes usable. Plus, you can disconnect the passthrough entirely from the USB port and power the e-cig for a little while with the additional battery. How long its charge lasts, I don't know. Other passthroughs, such as for the DSE 801, don't have the additional in-line battery box.)

If you do a Google (images) search for "Joye 510 passthrough" there'll be some examples of what the thing looks like. And there are probably better photos of passthroughs somewhere in this forum...

Ok, so I think I understand what I'm looking at in this pic online. What's the benefit of using the passthrough as opposed to using the normal charged battery?

You know, now that I've been sitting here messing with this thing, I understand so much more of what ya'll were talking about! I'm adding "wicking" to my personal lexicon! LOL Thanks!

Cuz it's a gadget! This is all about stuff! :)

Ok, ok, back to reality. Using the passthrough, you aren't using up the small batteries that came with the 510 -- you're getting constant power through the USB port. I find that I go through 510 batteries fairly quickly. I don't use 'juice' with a high nicotine content, so I end up taking a lot of puffs on the 510 each day. But with the passthrough, I don't have to be concerned about running outta battery power.

Plus, it's a gadget. :)

COOL!!!

Ok lemme make sure I understand this. I use the regular passthrough when sitting at the computer. Continuous power with no battery getting drained. Then when I'm out and about say in the car I can use the passthrough with the extra battery doo-hickie-thingie that you charge using the cigarette lighter. (sorry I'm not totally up on all the lingo yet)

Michelle, and all new vapers. Do yourself a favor, take an hour and watch this video.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...2-new-updated-comprehensive-intro-vaping.html

While there is always more to learn, Spikey's video helps make it all start to make sense, and many of your questions will be answered. :)

Actually, I did. In fact it was one of the first things I saw/read when my husband first told me about this forum. That was a little over a week ago and I'm finding that information that I thought I understood seems so different now that I've got the little sucker in my hands--not to mention the information overload I think I've given myself every since I heard about e-cigs. I appreciate the information however. I will go back and re-watch it.

Thanks!:)

I find the forum, and the next thing I know Michele's not only running with it, but sprinting! ;) Hi, everyone, I'm Luke, Michele's husband. I gotta say, I'm getting a kick out of watching her go through this learning process. I can also see more "supplies" in our future... Good thing I love e-gadgets, huh? I've already called "dibs" on the bits that wear out :)
