Since I did not see this mentioned in the thread, but it is posted on the vendor;s site - did anyone notice this statement...

Note:Joye eGo Mega Powered USB Charger is necessary for this battery!

That is not the same charger that is sold with the 650mah kit...

I thought it was the same, as I had seen warnings to not charge a 510 on this charger...IDK any of it anymore.

I saw that and wrote the vendor to ask about it. I'll post whatever the answer is.

and corley, you had posted who your vendor was in another thread (in feb) anyway :)

Hmmmm. Well, clearly, I am neither a battery expert, internet expert, or ECF expert. I can't remember, much less find a post I made from February, and had no clue others could search it up so easily. Another lesson learned, I guess. It still wasn't required of anyone to spend time trying to find out who my vendor was, and I thought it was clear that I did not wish for it to be stated in connection with the issue at hand...however I don't have any control over what others say and do...so it's out there now. Of course, thanks for trying to figure out what type of charger they are speaking of on the site though.

and from that same Healthcabin page, just FYI on charging times: How long does it take to charge eGo/ eGoT batteries?
*Joye eGo/eGo T 650mAh battery: 2 hours
*Joye eGo/eGo T 900mAh battery: 3 hours
*Joye eGo/eGo T 1000mAh battery: 3.5 hours

So, 2.5 hours is not abnormally long?

I think those charging times are for batteries that have no charge left in them, and correct me if I'm wrong, but you said that your husband plugged the brand new, never been used battery, into the charger? I think 2.5 hours would be abnormally long in that case, given the fact that they come out of packaging partially charged and ready for use.

Fast and mega chargers are identical. Just a different name.

It can take even longer... All my fat batteries (I have eGos 650 and 900 mAh and 650 mAh Rivas) take about 2-3 hours to fully charge (from fully discharged).

BTW, I've been using them for almost two years without an incident. And so have thousands of others. There is no need to panic--just be informed and educated. If you can't use the charger that came with the kit, check the specs very carefully, don't leave your battery on a charger unattended, try to remove the battery from the charger as soon as the light turns green, use charging bags is possible, don't put your batteries on any flammable surface for charging (carpet, papers on your desk or night stand), and invest in a multimeter to check the resistance of your atties. If it's getting dangerously low (1.3Ω or under)--throw it away. And if it shorts and ruins your battery, DO NOT transfer it to another battery, no matter what you do! I did that once when I was quite inexperienced; killed two brand new Rivas with one faulty carto! BTW--the dead batteries didn't ruin my charger, but that doesn't mean that it can't happen. Just that it didn't happen to me...

Happy vaping!

On a battery fresh out of the box, yes. Remember batteries are shipped charged to 85%, some vendors will even take the time to charge them the rest of the way. So initially a battery should not take 2.5 hrs to charge, well at least no battery I ever owned (including non JoyE) ever took 2.5 hrs to charge.

Switched, thank you for this useful info.

Quick question(s):

Would the 450mAh charger be okay to use with a KGO 1100mAh battery?

Also, I just had an eGo-c battery (650mAh), about a week old, fail on me. I purchased it from cignot, who is listed as a distributor on Joyetech's website here (Note: Dragonfly E cigs is also on this list) The battery just stopped working out of the blue, immediately after I tested its voltage. I thought it was dead, so I put it on the charger and it blinked 3 times like normal to indicate a connection, and then after a couple minutes I started to notice it was getting warm around the button/thread area (I was plugged directly into my laptop which I know I won't be doing anymore and the chargers specs are as follows: eGo USB charger; Input DC 5V 500mA; Output DC 4.2V 420mA; so a compatible charger) so I disconnected it and put a carto on to see if it would actually work, but as soon as the connection was made it fired up the carto automatically. Battery no good :(

Probably shouldn't have done this next part, but I reconnected it to the charger to see how fast it would get warm, and it was pretty quick. Then for some odd reason (don't know why) I wanted to see if the whole battery was getting warm, so I put it up to my cheek and immediately felt a static shocking sensation coming from the battery. Kinda freaked me out a little bit, so I disconnected the battery, set it aside and contacted cignot who shipped a new battery the very next day (should arrive tomorrow). Through reading all of this thread, I'm now worried that maybe my charger (which has had very little use) has been affected since I connected my defunct battery to it. I don't know if that's possible, but I'd like to hear your input if you have any (or from anyone else for that matter)

Sorry, not trying to take over the thread, just trying to put safety first, and I'm sure others can take from this as well as I have taken from others' posts on here.

Thanks again.
Providing the charging rate in mA is below the battery capacity, rule of thumb you are alright. AAMOF we should be charging our batteries at around 200mA -- the slower the better. At 420mA it is known as a rapid charger. Big warnings were posted when eGos came out not to charge regular 510 batts (180mAh) with an eGo charger.

eGo C batteries have been redesigned so I am told by Jason Cropper head of TW. I am not sure what they did (trade secret) but owning and vaping an eGo C I can assure you, the battery is akin to vaping the same sized cell e.g 16340 in IMR compared to LI Ion. There is that extra little umf there. So although Joyetech batts, we can expect a few hiccups along the way. BTW the price of an eGo C batt is 1.5 times the price of a std Joyetech batt of similar size which also suggests it is a different cell. Compared to an old 650mAh "eGo" battery, the eGo C batt is 3/16" longer, so it is not just marketing.

The industry is changing so rapidly that it is extremely hard to keep up with all the changes. The only way folks can stay informed is to keep informed once they are informed of all the changes and nuances in our industry. The latter is not easy for new vapers as there is a ton of info that is gobbly .... and the info out there it is simply overwhelming.

Your right i edited my post right after i checked with joyetech to make sure, I was under the impression at first that joyetech only carried 650mah and 1000mah, a mistake on my part it seems

Yeah, the whole 900mah product page going to the USB passthru page must be just webadmin error.
One thing that is absolute certainty Joyetech DOES NOT MAKE A 1100mAh CELL. Therefore, anyone that has one, it is not a Joyetech product.

Out of the box - I do not remember the exact amount of time they took to charge (650mah) - I do remember that the vendor literature said to top them off before using and I do remember that one took longer than the other - A guess would be 45min for one - 1.2 hrs for the other (only a guess from memory). They do take 2 hours to recharge now (you can almost put a timer on them) - I do not use them until they flash - swap them out when the vape drops usually around the 5 hr mark.

I also charge mine outside now - recommendations on ECF not the vendor (concrete, brick and tile only out there) and it looks like I am going to also add a lipo bag now...

I was doing some research on Lipo bags, and came across an RC forum where they were discussing possible alternatives to the bag...someone mentioned using (2) 1 gallon ziploc bags filled with sand and sandwiching the battery and charger in between the "sand bags." Seems kind of silly when put into context of charging e-cig batteries lol. Or maybe a kettle or pan of some sort with bag of sand as the lid?

Of course, I know MY charger cable is no longer than a foot, so it might take a little bit of rigging. Idk, I'm just bored, pulling an all nighter, trying to kill time, and this is what caught my interest :D

Corley,
could you post a photo of the charger? Is the label still intact, or did it melt beyond recognition?

Is there anyway you can provide pictures of these chargers? Preferably the sticker part too if it is not charred beyond recognition.

Got pics?

Curious to see these batteries and chargers.

First off I want to say that I am very glad you and your husband and kids are more then fine! Seeing as I have two 650mAh ego batt's (that seem fine) and now a 1100mAh pass through battery that seems to be doing wierd things, and reading your article I am thinking very seriously on personally throwing in the towel and walking away..........I cannot afford a risk like this as I rent a very small room............
