Yea, you might be right, a catastrophic series of events. I can think of one scenario involving the PCB. If there was a PCB short on the ground wire that runs from the bottom of the cell, the wire could heat up enough to burn through the cell. Then it's like a snowball. The plates in the cell start melting together faster and faster then it pops.

OK...I am no electrician (or even remotely electronically inclined) but the one question I have is have you charged anything in this wall outlet before? I was just thinking maybe it was that outlet in your house was putting out too much wattage (?) or something. I'm sure I'm just talking out my bum on this one.

I charge mine on a power strip with a on/off switch...don't know if that makes any difference or not. I am thinking about putting mine in the cast iron dutch oven though soon.

The only reason I asked was that at the our new house I used an outlet I had never used to charge an e-cig...mind you a very very very cheap tobacco store model we were trying out...like a small 510 and the charger sparked, popped, and died as I was plugging it into the wall. I don't know if it was the outlet or the charger in that instance. Needless to say we are back to using the eGos (going to try out the KGOs soon though).

My ego is charging in my dutch oven tyvm. Glad everyone was ok in your instance.

just as I had imagined lol I'm literally just putting mine in a pan and using it's lid to sit on top...my dad has all of his tools with him in Serbia, so I can't really put anything together, but I figure that would be better than nothing.

Just wanted to let you guys know, I have provided the link of the images to the vendor, as well as pictures of my burned floor. They have been really great in working with me through all of this. I have had phone calls and emails, and they are working with joyetech on this. They are a Joyetech distributor and have assured me that the products I purchased were genuine Joyetech products. The battery that exploded happened to be an older "model" of the 900mAh from before Joyetech began imprinting their logo. The more I read what everyone is saying, I believe that whatever mechanism is supposed to tell the charger to stop charging, failed, and that eventually this battery just exploded because of it. As for the other failures...we'll never know, but the vendor did everything in their battery to make things right, and I would not hesitate to recommend them. Just sayin'

You just told us the vender whether you realize it or not... ;)
Dragons are nice... Flys are not...

Joye eGo-T 900mAh Battery (w/5 click function) (JEGOT900B)

From the pic, they look like they say ego-t to me. SO I would assume they are genuine.

And they are a legitimate JoyeTech distributor so it should be the real stuff:

Joyetech brand offline electronic cigarette shops (I have no idea what JoyeTech means by "Joyetech brand offline electronic cigarette shops" but hey - this comes from their own web page.)

I know the vendor has already been stated by others, as I clearly did not know that I was "giving away" identifying info, and had clearly wanted to keep them anonymous, but I would appreciate it if their name wasn't dragged through this again. So many times, especially with e-cigs it seems, if a problem occurs with a product, and the vendor is listed, the vendor is viewed negatively. There was a defective product, which was not manufactured by this vendor, and thus I wanted to keep them out of it. Too late now, but as this has happened multiple times, I wanted to state my feelings on the issue. The vendor has seen, and is thankful for some of the helpful comments on here, and is using that information to assist me with dealing with Joyetech for a resolution and to figure out how to prevent this occurance in the future. Though it is clearly past their business hours, I am still receiving email communications from them as they are working through this step-by-step. I certainly don't know if any other businesses would be so diligent in this. I use a lot of vendors for cartos, juices, etc...so while I am not intending on marketing for this Vendor, I have no problems in highlighting their great customer service, prices, shipping time, and resolution of issues. I cannot say that for all of the companies I order various ecig products from. So while I still don't know what the resolution will be, or how satisfied I will be with it, I can say right now it seems as though they are doing everything within their power to assist me in the issue.

And no, though they are reading the ECF posts here, they have not said one thing to me about why they were brought into the conversation.

Pink is the new black.

Thats awesome to hear that the vendor is handling this in such a great way, props to them and it is definitely not going unrecognized on my end. I appreciate any vendor willing to stand behind their products. It is also very encouraging to hear that Joyetech is involved and investigating, this is exactly what we need in this industry, people willing to stand behind their products and do things right.

I am also thankful for folks like Rocketman who are willing to go all mad scientist and perform experiments for us too :) I need to get back to blowing things up in the name of science, I sure miss doing that. Seriously though, you have an o-scope man? Me <- jealous. An o-scope and spectrum analyzer have been on my wish list for years now but I can never justify buying them.

So,
You guys will be charging in some kind of container from now on, right?

Old Ford up on blocks out behind the barn, metal container, Liposack?

Best to you in the future.

My husband, who does product design and drafting is pretty confident with the heavy (thick) aluminum we are using to charge our batts in for now. We can still see in there and there is enough room for fumes to vent if need be, through the hole in the top that the charger runs through. Both ends are screwed on...so hopefully if some catastrophic event occurs with another battery, that will save us from injury or damage...Although, if I had a barn, I wouldn't be opposed to that option rather than our house. lol

LOL, I heard somewhere that real men charge their batteries in pink tins...

JK, but, seriously, glad you said what you did about the vendor issue. If they purposfully sold me a faulty item or claimed it was branded by joyetech and wasn't, then I would have an issue with them as a vendor, however there is no indication that either of those situations play into this, and they are certainly working with me to resolve this and prevent furure incidents for others.
