Hey All,

I’m very new to diy juice. Seems like everything I make has a slight burn to the throat which is different than the typical throat hit. I see people talking about using saline, marshmallow and Vinegar to soothe the hit. What kinds tho? Can someone share some links to good soothing products? I use usp grade vg and pg and get my nicotine from wizard and my flavor from north west flavor. Does anyone else get flavor from there? Also what’s a good link to buy more flavors from ?(preferably vg based)

What ratio is your pg/vg and what is your flavor percentages? I would be going up in vg unless your nic mg is high, then I would switch to salts. Or are you using a flavor with alcohol, then all you need to do is let the juice breath for a couple of hours with cap off. We need details to help you.

Switch to salts? I’m doing 70/30 vg/pg and the nicotine is 100 mg/ml and it’s deluded to 5mg. I use 5-10% flavor based on how strong it smells. It’s 100% vg nicotine and vg based flavor. Not sure if there is alcohol in the flavor. It actually has absolutely no ingredients on the bottle.
ELR recipes has a list of flavors that you can look and see what's in your flavors. I would start with breathing the juice for a couple hours. Also may just need a steep.

That throat burning sensation is what I get if my PG is over about 8%. You may be PG sensitive and may have to check by changing percentages what you can tolerate or not. I guess even at 5 mg/ml the nicotine might be harsh, but I would really suspect the PG.

I'd say try 90% VG and 10% Distilled water. If that works and you like the vape, great. If not, I have just started using PEG400 in my mixes, as even with the DW, it was too "cloudy" for me. I know I'm not sensitive to it (I tested it) but I have no idea yet (I mixed PEG400 mixes two days ago) how it handles for flavor, throat hit, etc. but i guess I will be finding out in about a month (the length of time I steep my mixes, I have determined it is the longest steep time any of my flavors "need" so I tend to stick to it.

If you are very nicotine sensitive, and your nic feels harsh, you might try switching to nic salts, although citric acid can be used to convert freebase into nic salts, not sure exactly how it works but I believe there is a thread on it somewhere. That should reduce any nic harshness.

I agree with Letitia about maybe letting it breathe an hour or so (I don't breathe my mixes much due to the DW in it, so for me I keep "breathing" periods fairly short. Honestly, as far as steeping, I have found the best method to be time, although you could try a warm water bath, and/or a Ultra sonic cleaner or a mixing device, that sometimes speeds up steeping. I don't usually bother as I'm on a mixing rotation schedule.

But look into PG levels, and maybe the process to covert your freebase nic into salts, greatly reducing nicotine harshness. I think one or the other may be your solution.

Are you referring to these concentrates?

If so, I have read a few posts on other forum sites, where the posters seem to think they might be a "house label"/re-branded offering of Real Flavors older VG line (which has since been replaced with their Super Concentrate (or "SC") line; though is still produced for resale).

There is a rather lengthy thread dedicated to RF concentrates here. You may want to read the earlier posts and see what you might learn there. Remember to note whether it is a "VG" concentrate, or an "SC" concentrate, that is being discussed.

Also, @Fozzy71 is kind of our resident RF guru, here on ECF. Maybe he would be willing to check in, and share what his experiences were, with the VG concentrates (I think(?) he has switched over to mosly SC's now).
