What if it's actually abnormal but it just happens to all of us so we think it's "normal"? Hmmmm
Normal is quantitatively defined as failing within an arbitrarily set range. So if, in this instance, normal color-change is expected to go from clear to dark caramel, then no, this is not normal. However if normal is defined a going from clear to a deep mahogany ("That is MAHOGANY!" ), then this is normal.
What you really have to look at is WHY the color of the liquid is turning dark brown/black. Nicotine liquid gets darker when exposed to light, oxygen, and heat. So some darkening is to be expected. Add in flavors which typically contain colorings and sugar to some degree, will also darken the color. Combing all of that the fact that you're heating this mixture and you'll see additional darkening. Depending on the ingredients in your liquid, the heat your ecig produces, and the age of your liquid, you'll see natural variances in the end color after vaping for a while.
In short, yes, this is natural. Once it gets past a deep caramel color, I typically clean out the atty and start fresh. But I have very sensitive taste buds. It's a personal call in the end.
