So I quit smoking three weeks ago and started vaping. I also missed my running training during this period for other reasons. And yesterday I had a first run after switching from analogues to digital. My first observation was that even though I missed a lot of training time my pulse went down about 5 points lower while jogging since last run. This is good! But now my lungs are burning while running. The burning is not critical, so I did not go to a doctor yet, but I have a question - did anyone experience something like that after quitting the cigs?

uhhh YES. The detox from analogs is lengthy. The tar/toxins buildup and impending rebuilding of your lungs and other tissues takes awhile. Go slowly. Ease into it---it will get better. The damage you have done will reverse to a great degree...unless you smoked for 40 years or longer. Damage then becomes fairly irreversible but not totally.

When stopping smoking and taking up vaping, I experienced many horrid feelings in my chest. Tightness and pain were not uncommon for a while. One time I even had to stop work and go sit on the step of my truck for a half hour, convincing myself that I was getting near a heart attack. I didn't know if I was overdosing on nic, having a heart attack, or what. To a new vaper it was very scary.

After much reading on ECF, I now understand that most of that was simply withdrawals from the cigarettes. After pouring in the tar and chemicals for 39 years at the final rate of 2 packs per day, the change I was putting my body through was significant. And now I say it was well worth all of it.

Left the doctor's office yesterday after having a yearly physical. Blood pressure 104/68, lungs clear, no circulatory problems found, all blood tests good. I LOVE VAPING! I truly believe it is adding much time to my life.

Great share, bring hope to ones like me who is trying quitting analogues. Vaping did help me much especially people around me. the other day, doctor said my lungs is better than before, after quitting. Now your story moved me and gave me more expectation for future.

I mistakenly thought that within 3 weeks of quitting analogs, I'd be able to run for my train without being drenched in sweat and having that creepy heaving breathing thing going on.

Turns out if you don't exercise for 15 years, you're going to get that, analogs or not.

I have much respect for the OP for continuing running whilst being a smoker. I can't run up the stairs without needing a minute or two to recover.

Funny thing is that I do a lot of cycling for five years now, when I started everyone was telling be that I will quit smoking soon. Didn't happen :) Then I added running exercises to build stamina for cycling and everyone was saying that now I'll quit. Didn't happen :) But then I vaped once...

When I Switched to e-Cigarettes, I had a Similar Problem that you are having. I found that I Couldn't Handle High PG e-liquids. That and I was Hitting on my PV Way to Hard and Way to Fast.

I Moved to Higher VG e-Liquids and started taking Long, Slow Hits and the Problem went away. You might try it and see if it Helps.

BTW - I know what you mean about the Cycling. Many of the People I rode with Over the Years would Freak Out when After a Work Out or After a Race/Tour the First thing I would do is Spark Up a Cigarette. LOL

I think that it will take some more time until you'll notice the difference , I started jogging again a while after switching to vaping and I believe it was the first time in years that I felt tension of my legs before my lungs and heart started to fail on me when usually it was the other around .

I smoked at least PAD for almost 27 years. When I started vaping in October 2013 I was smoking almost 2 PAD and couldn't walk 2 blocks at a clip without getting extremely short of breath and the spots in front of my eyes. Ugh.

I still smoked 2-4 cigs/day until early January, it was easier to run errands and shovel the walk by then but with the hard winter I didn't get out to do much more than that. I had a little of the burning you describe, but also some heaviness which went away after increasing the pg in my juice.

By Easter, I could hike 3-5 miles in hilly terrain, getting short of breath here and there but recovering quickly and without having to stop. I last went about a week ago, and while I still got out of breath here and there on climbs those times were fewer and briefer than in April.

It's a process that takes time, be patient and keep working at it.

ETA: My BP is down, too. Which is a big plus!

Ok, I thought so. I'm jogging right now instead of full speed runs. Well see how I feel in a week.

You'll feel exactly the same in a week. You've done massive trauma to your lungs over the years, you can;t just expect them to heal in a few weeks. It takes years for them to fully heal back to 100%, however you will start to feel benefits after just a month even more after 6 months.

Well, I didn't feel the burn running at 130bpm while smoking. I didn't feel it even running 10km mini marathon in one hour at 162bpm (my anaerobic zone). So I hope I'll be back to normal sooner :)

I smoked and ran for almost 20 years. I was dual vaping and smoking for over a year and still running. I've only quit the cigarettes for a month and a half. I didn't have any kind of issues maybe because it was a more gradual reduction. My breathing couldn't feel better right now and I'm almost 40. I was faster a few months ago while still smoking. I'm pretty sure that's because I picked the month of June to stop smoking. The heat/humidity of summer seems to be a bigger obstacle than a few menthol cigarettes.
