So I'd really wanted to write this myself, but by the time I pitched it to my editors a co-worker (granted, a very capable one) had already snagged it. Overall I don't think it turned out too bad...he does interview a shop owner who appears to lay claim for the creation of Aspire products and perpetuates the "water vapor" myth, but a lot of the fear mongering we're used to is absent and he even gets one of the ANTZ to admit that there's no arguing vaping is far less dangerous than cig smoke (but still, the children!).

http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2014/jan/15/citylights2-e-cigs-face-enormous-obstacles/

We're just a little alt-newsweekly that only prints about 160,000 papers in a region with several million people, but compared with some downright vicious pieces local radio and TV has put out lately I'll take any coverage that isn't terrible.

Dude: your link wont load, hope your printer works better for your rag.

Apparently ECF has a problem with bit-dot-ly links - fixed with the full link. Never even seen our print shop, but they must be doing something right to crank out a million and a half pages a week...

The San Diego Reader is an extremely good paper.

And it has been around for at least 30 years if not longer as far as I know.
I would expect nothing less from them.

Thanks! The paper has actually been around for something like 42 years, though I've only been contributing for like three. Dorian, who actually wrote the article (like I said, he beat me to the punch), has at least twice as much experience and knows how to treat a subject fairly.

Since you're local, did you by chance catch the KPBS story a few weeks ago where the entire thing was overdubbed by what sounded like someone trying to suck a golf ball through a garden hose, allegedly emulating the sound of vaping, while they interviewed some bro working a shop near State who obviously had no clue what he was talking about? I'm still burning over that one...

I don't think I saw anything on KPBS, but I did tape a piece that Roger Hedgecock did about electronic cigarettes.
The thing is, I couldn't watch it, and I doubt I would have been able to watch the KPBS piece either.

You'd think over the course of a few years I would become less sensitive to the BS that is spewed out on a daily basis.
Turns out I just keep getting madder and madder.

Great article!! :toast:

I loved the section:
“They are clearly marketing to kids. Store owners are saying that single-use devices are flying out the door. That and the Centers for Disease Control has released a report showing increased use by middle-school and high-school students.”

Dang it, can't they just stick to real cigarettes like we did, that would be better right?:facepalm:
The ANTZ just need to follow the example of programs to stop teen drug use, teen drinking and teen pregnancy since they have worked so well over the years.

OK, rant over, and yes I feel better....

I've said it before and I'll say it again, what is the better thing to start using, cigarettes or vaporizers? They are going to "smoke" something either way. The media and law makers keep going after the vape shops for allegedly selling to kids but not convenience stores. Why? Because adults are usually the ones buying cigarettes for the under age user. Considering how careful most vape shops are trying to be, do the media and law makers really believe these shops are selling to kids? No. They know better. That's just the best they can come up with to push the general population to want regulations and bans. I think we should push for our local news to do informed reports on ecigs, interviewing shops and vapers to get the truth out there. We know we can't rely on national media to tell the un-funded truth.

Exactly what I wanted to point out through this thread - it can be done.

My favorite line:

" To what extent are we going to keep giving money to Big Tobacco and closing any real way for people to make the break from tobacco products? No, instead we are using children to fight for Big Tobacco. Awesome."

It's always, "Fo' Da' Chillun'"! Ta heck with middle-age and downright OLD people kicking the cigarette habit. Acknowledge that millions can't be as 'wrong' as some claim? Never! But too in "the chillun'" at every turn. It looks good in print and the words sound "sincere" as the come out of the mouths of "reporters". The re-kill "'da chillun'" at every opportunity. They re-molest "da' chillun'" at every opportunity. "Da' Chillun'" are great a great way to get people to listen and "believe" they really give a hoot.

I enjoyed most of the article; it IS far netter than the crap they put out in the media here in The Land fo Enchantment.

Senile Old Man Don......... take my e-cigarettes and you'll find out where I hid my "weapons of direct and pointed destruction"!

Excellent article!!! I especially liked this quote, & have even said it myself (not as eloquently though lol) quite a few times.
"Truth of the matter is, we need to encourage quitting smoking by alternatives and education, not by force and hatred.”
Amen!, Right on!, hale yeh!, Kudos!. And every exclamation of agreance inserted here. Well done!
