My mom has been negative about the big switch. The only time I've wanted to smoke again was while I was talking to her. I explained everything, but she insists they are dangerous.

I found this amusing, so thought I'd share..

Today she brought me a magazine article from Woman's World/April 18, 2011

E-cigarettes get an F!
Those electronic cigarettes (so-called e-cigarettes) you may have seen for sale aren't safe, say researchers at the University of California, Riverside. Their recent study revealed that e-cigarettes have many flaws, including leaky cartridges--which can expose adults, children and pets to dangerous amounts of nicotine--missing information about expiration dates and dosages and even safety features that don't always work.

OMG, if that's all they found, shoot me now. So someone has a greasy PV, a bottle of juice that doesn't say much, and their pocket got hot.

The most ironic part of this page was that 1/4 of it is devoted to a headline that says "Lower your lung cancer risk!*
*even if you smoke!

(In case anyone is interested, that is to take 4 full-strength aspirins each week.)

My father once told me he'll never buy an LCD monitor because the contrast will never be as good as a CRT (he's a professional photographer). Around the same time he told me he'll never go digital because the resolution will never be as good as with traditional film. He proved himself a liar on both counts within a year of those conversations.

Our children are only moderately more ignorant than our parents.

They should have added that the use of e-cigs can lead to no longer speaking to your parents.

Love it! I am trying to be good, she still smokes 1-2 cigs a day and I know part of her problem is that she looked forward to smoking with me when we saw each other. She's constantly telling me that her grandpa lived into his 90's and smoked, but she conveniently omits that her dad died young from smoking and my dad died from COPD.

Sales of PV's and e-juice has reached about $100 million annually. Big Pharma, of course, racks up sales in the BILLIONS but they are so greedy they don't want to let even this little nugget slip through their fingers. I did some Googling and found that it was the AMA (which is practically inseparable from Big Pharma) that was behind the push for the FDA to classify PV's as nicotine delivery devices. From editorials screaming to have e-cigs put into the same category as cigarettes to meetings where members voted to have the e-cig classified as medical devices, the puppet AMA has done everything it can to deliver this fledgling industry into the hands of their masters. They don't want to let it go and are now pushing to have the FDA take the latest ruling (which classifed PV's as tobacco products and NOT medical devices) all the way to the Supreme Court. They don't care about your health; smoking cessation is hit or miss with gum, patches and inhalers but who cares? At least the money for those products goes to Big Pharma. Believe me, those two, the AMA and Big Pharma, are behind these stupid articles that do not educate but merely serve as a scare tactic to get people on their side. It makes me want to puke.

LOL :toast: back atcha :)

My husband, a computer programmer, was famous for telling everyone in 1991 that nobody would ever be able to use more than 20 mb of memory on a computer.

Don't tell your dad, but kids now are way into traditional film again. My son has a plastic camera called a Holga and he thinks it's the greatest thing ever.

I didn't mean to sound flippant. It is hard to deal with not only the facts, but emotions as well. I wish you the best and hope you can convince your mother to eventually upgrade to vaping soon. Imagine tasting flavors together, etc. Fun times!

You may already have seen these, but if not, there's loads of documents with actual research n' stuff you can print for your mom here: CASAA.org...and most are easy reads.

She's doing the equivalent of covering her ears and chanting when I come back with solid information, but I think the longer I stick with this, and don't drop over, she'll be okay with it. Meanwhile, I'll get cut-out articles from all the women's magazines.

Oh no, you didn't. I don't think she'll ever switch herself, she's done the 1-2 a day for about 12 years now. I feel bad because those two are the highlight of her day.

Me too. There is big money to be made and it's going to get interesting. I think of all the people in pain trying to quit and how relatively easy this was for me. It's going to be sad if we eventually lose this close community - I have never seen so many nice, helpful and supportive people all gathered in one place. Also, I've ordered things from about 15 different places and every single order was processed fast and was reasonably priced. A little fear of losing something I like so much is what pushed me to get a REO and start DIY.

The ease is what amazes me. Granted, I'm only off of analogs for 3 weeks now, but that hasn't happened in 2 decades! And with these, there was no jonesing, no apprehension, no anxiety, no clock-watching until my next smoke, ...no pressure. Quitting was PAINLESS! I wish every smoker could experience that. :)

UCR Newsroom: Electronic Cigarettes Are Unsafe and Pose Health Risks is the press release Womans world likely based their "article" on... Being that womans world isn't a news agency. So credibility of sources isn't high on their prioritys... Goggle "Womans world June 2007" and check out "Better than Gastric Bypass,"

What I really love about the UCR report is

"Currently, there are no methods for proper disposal of e-cigarettes products and accessories, including cartridges, which could result in nicotine contamination from discarded cartridges entering water sources and soil, and adversely impacting the environment"

When in fact Environmental fate and effects of nicotine release... [Environ Toxicol Chem. 2008] - PubMed result states

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Persistence, Bioaccumulation, and Toxicity Profiler model, based on the structure of nicotine and the predictive rates of hydroxyl radical and ozone reactions, estimated an atmospheric half-life of less than 5.0 h.

So you have a magazine... that doesn't check its sources... that is referencing a Study that does not check its facts. Ohhh and UCR graduates mostly Business/marketing students, not that thats a bad thing, just saying this isn't a medical study. But I'm glad my state didn't pay for it... the University of California Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program paid for the "results". I wonder if they would fund a study to find out how much supposition papers cost per student tuition?

UCR tuition is 11 K in state and 34K out of state

Lol so print out a big stack of CASAA resources and every time she hands you an article, hand her one. "I'll read yours if you'll read mine!" :)

I don't know about you but I just love ordering 15ml of juice and then just dumping it down the drain. Sometimes I even buy twice that much just to go out and sprinkle it on the lawn, you know, just for kicks
