my nemesis pocket-fired for about 30 seconds last night, is it really necessary to replace the battery?

firstly, please don't bite my head off! i know battery safety is absolutely crucial and i don't want to be a statistic. i know i possibly shouldn't be using mechs if i don't know the answer to this - but i am, and i don't, so i'd love some help.

i cleaned my lockring and now it's spinning freely - a little too freely i found out last night, after my nemmy fired for a good 30 seconds or so.

i use AWs and they cost a pretty penny (yes, i know facial reconstructive surgery costs more) so i don't want to have to replace the battery if i don't need to.

is there a way of telling beyond just being super-cautious if it needs replacing? it is exactly the same in appearance, it didn't vent, etc.
i use a nitecore i2. i read about people saying to test your batteries - how would i do this? i have a smok omnitester coming in the mail - can i use that?

thankyou for your help!

p.s. how often should i throw out my batteries? once a year?

Battery is most probably still ok.. It can manage continuous high current. My friend had also some troubles last night. He put nemesis with magnets with kayfun on top on the table standing, when he got back after 10min, everything was boiling hot, except battery - red efest or purple efest, which was only warm. Still works ok :)

You are gonna see less performance from the battery after 200+ charges and then is time to replace it if you want full power. :)

For testing voltage of battery, you are gonna need multimeter. Omni tester cant do that, but it can do other great stuff for vapers! :vapor:

Unless you're running very low resistance in your atty, your battery is fine. So, what is the resistance and what battery is it? AW 18650 2000 mAh, 18650 1600 mAh, or maybe the 18490?

I check my batteries off the charger once in a while to make sure they are close to 4.2V. I check the voltage after using them for a while to make sure I don't run them much below 3.6V. Let them go too low and they suffer damage.

I had a pair of Batteries go a year and a half before I recycled them. They were starting to not last long between charges and their voltage drop under load went up noticeably. You can almost always get around 300 charge/discharge cycles out of them if you don't abuse them too much, that's much more relevant than simply time since you got them.

"If I had a dollar for every time" Well I would have $1, haha point is lesson learned and yes you are more than likely fine, I am using sony vct4/5's and exact same thing happened to me, my battery is fine, and I still use it in my rotation. And yes I would say anywhere from 9 months- 1 year I would recycle batteries and pick up a new ones.

thanks for the info guys! I believe I'm running a 1.2 micro (or maybe a 1.4, i forget now) on a 2000mAh 18650 AW IMR. so I should invest in a multimeter to check batteries?

I would say so, they can go for like $16, handy to check batteries, ohms, voltage drop and the list go on. IMO pull that trigger son.

You're welcome :)

That's a 10A battery with at 1.2 ohms a 3.5A draw. You're good.

I would be lost without a multimeter when using my mechanical mods. Voltage checks of the batteries and resistance checks of the coils, attys and mod parts like the switch assembly or 510 connection mean a lot to me.

Even a cheap $10 DMM will do you very well.
