I ordered the DSE901 from Steve at Puresmoker about a week ago.
First, let me say kudos to Steve. He must have an old Star Trek surplus transporter in his garage or something because delivery was lightning fast.
I think he had my order to me before I got logged off of his site.
I also think he tossed in an extra pack of oil because I don't think I ordered that much.
Thanks Steve. I will do business with you again.

Now my question. I'm noit sure ifd I'm using this thing properly. I hear great reviews so the unit must be ok.

My cartrages of oil are quirky and don't last long. With a fresh cart I get maybe a half to one cigs worth of smoking then it starts to have a sort of burnt undertaste. Then it becomes hit or miss as to weather I get vape or not. After about 2 or three cigs worth of smoking, I might as well install a new cart. It almost seems as if the cart is either empty or not getting to the cottom pad and the pad dries up. But, when I touch the pad, I get oil on my finger. It seems as if I store the cig tip down between smokes, it picks up a bit, as if oil was running down into the coil a bit.

I wonder if a pen or cigar model will deliver more. Maybe if I drip.
I assume dripping is when you open up the atomizer and put a drop of oil directly on the coil. I'd like to get a more consistent and stronger throat hit.

I have saved all my (possibly) half used carts in case I can open them and salvage the oil.

As a new e-cig user. I'm sure my technique needs some improvement. I'll be searching this site for info as I see if I get responses to this post.

Thank you in advance.

i found the same with my 901 to be honest, i find toppin up the cart every fags worth of smoking works a treat. keeping that cart topped up gives great vapour , great throat hit , great flavour, great fix....great :)

also dont forget that e-cigs work by gravity helped capillary action , so in my eyes the bear minimum amount of liquid is fed to the atomizser. topping up carts gives the atomizer a better amount of fluid to work with. on the plus side topping of carts means the carts will last an age and e-liquid is comparitivley cheap in comparison to buying loads of carts.
The cart currently in my 901 has been in there 2 days, being topped up i've used about 2ml of juice and thats replaced my 20 a day rollup habit.

Before I give up on the 901 and move to a cigar or kissbox, I'm going to order a couple of bottles from Steve and try topping off / dripping.
I have about 8 empty carts so I should be good there. While I'm at it, I'll get a new 901 starter kit. That way I'll have 4 batteries and 4 atomizers that I can play with.

Do people find the cigar to be that much better? The kissbox gets good reviews but it's a lot of money. I hate to spend that and fine it's not working for me.

I'm willing to work with the 901 if I can get some good information and get some consistently (good) results. I like this little unit. It's a good size and looks nice. I just need better results.

Hi Coustanis

That makes 3 of us trying to sort this malarky out today.:)

I also got a burned taste - YUCK!!! But after reading Kate's advice I peered into my cartridge and lo & behold I found 2 fine fibres from the cartridge lurking on the coil. I tweezed them out and things are tasting much better now. Thanks Kate!:)

I say 'much better' because it still tastes strange and plasticky for want of a better word, but we were warned not to expect real cigs taste. Guess it'll take a little time to adjust. I must be adjusting fast cos I just had a real smoke and it was vile. Think I will go with the healthier vile and give it more time.

I'm topping with 36mg wikid liquid malaboro now. Left the flavours out of it & while I can't say it tastes like malaboro Brunette, it definately has a bite and in my subjective opinion, a lot more tobaccoish flavour than the carts do. If I exhale through my nose it is even more pronounced. I'm sure in a few days time when I forget what real malboro fags taste like, this will do very nicely.

I'm very pleased with the 901B for now. It's early days but I am thinking this is flipping fantastic compared with any other way of giving up smoking.
Almost can't believe my luck. :)

Hey Wil,

Cartridge life is the #1 downfall to the DSE901. Its simply doesn't last a long as "full size" device that hold 2-3 times the amount of Liquid a "Mini" does. Also, its not oil :)

If you taste any sense of burning, you have run the cart dry and it either needs to be refilled, topped off, or you need to drip. If you get liquid, it will allow you to stay topped off at all time, resulting in better smoke/vapor, taste, and away from the dreaded burning taste (which is the smoldering of the filling itself from getting to dry)

Please be careful on running cartridges low. It can have very ill effect on the atomizer, causing the life of the atomizer to diminish fairly quickly!

If you need anything else, don't hesitate to post or ask!

Thanks Bud,

Great minds think alike! I have just ordered some wicked Virginia, and some standard e-liquid in menthol and coffee (sounded different) as I figured they were good strong flavours which would get rid of that burning taste! Good luck!!

Hey Brunette,

When used properly, there should be ZERO burning taste. People new to esmoking normally run the risk of burning out their first atomizers due to letting it "dry out" Seen it many times, and we can normally fix it with Juice. Glad to see you ordered some liquid to keep you topped off!

Hi Steve,

I posted this to your email but I'll put it here as well in case anyone finds it useful.

Thank you for such a fast reply. Ok, so I guess I'm running the cart dry. I was just surprised it happened so fast but I
understand that to have a mini, the capacity would be less.
I'm ok with that.
I didn't realize it wasn't oil.
I thought it was. So the mini uses something besides oil but the pen and cigar use oil?

I hope I ordered the right liquid for the mini. Can you make sure, please?
Thank you.

Anyway, I want to work with the mini and see if it's just a matter of my newbyness getting used to the unit.
I just placed an order with you for a couple of atomizers and two bottles of oil so I can refill or top off.
We'll see how that goes.

If I can't get it to satisfy me, I'll get a pen or a cigar from you. Larger capacity and maybe a better hit.
I have to say though, then the 901 does work with a fresh cart, it's really, really nice.

The order is placed. I look forward to trying the bottle.
Thank you for the fast responses, fast shipping and really cool product line.

Hiya

Got mine off e-bay UK - Pillbox 38 sells it.
Not sure but if you search for : e-liquid or Totally Wicked 36mg - it might take you to his shop there.
There is also Suppliers thread on this site - you'll find his addy there. Sorry I cant post a link...bane of my life right now as we must have 15 posts before we can add links. Never mind at this rate I'll soon be url-ing it I'm sure!:)

For me the e-liquid makes a HUGE difference to the quality of smoke all round. I find the cartridges do run dry fast without it. I don't want to lose my atomiser:cry:, so I am being a pain in my own neck about checking it every so often.

I thought I would be fiddling all the time but I get a good run before my cartridge runs dry this way. And it is as much hassle/time as pulling a cig out the pack & lighting it.

Mmmmmm - the virginia does sound good. I'd like to try the coffee too. Nice choices Brunette!

I was wondering - for those that just need to keep the atomiser 'wet', and not add more nictotine at all, could one use a few drops of glycerine instead of e-liquid on the cartridge or the little coil thingie?? Or would I blow up my device? 8-o

And - if this would work where do we buy glycerine? Pharmacy?

Big Thanks to all of you experienced e-smokers that have helped us out today. :)

dont know why you'de need to do that , unless your gonna store it for some time. if u look into you 901 with the cart removed you will see a metal bridge. this is like a steel wire wool ( theres more of it in there that you cant see) and this acts as a storage area for the juice , much like your cartridge filling material.
But if you still have a need to do it , just use 0 nic juice or 2 drops of your usual juice.
i personally wouldn't go putting anything else in my cigs other than carts and e-liquid. but that's just me :)

Don't let your atomiser get too hot! I find the burning taste comes right then. Let it rest for a little if you feel it getting more than luke warm. When an atomiser gets too hot I find it burns the poor wool in your cartridge (also happens when cart is too too dry) and doesn't get a chance to soak up any liquid! It doesn't take very long for it to cool down. Sorry if this has been mentioned, I kinda skipped the second page hehe!

-EDIT-
Missed some bits out.

If I can add a liitle to this.

I've given up trying to ration the number of carts I go through a day as I reckon that they're so cheap it doesn't matter. when The vapour starts to get low - and I'm sure it's not a low battery - I take the old cart out squeeze any goodness left into the atom and put in a new cart - bliss.

Another tip - use a toothpick to pull out the gauze from the new cart by about 1-2 mm (1/16 inch in old money) I find this really increases the vapour load.

I did that with my first cartridge, but the fibres ended up touching the atomiser which isn't good!

(Yeah, just 1 post to go before I'm out of the crib ;) )
