Looks like my kit comes with two batteries so I think I'm good to go there. Emailed rob at smoke-tek to see if he sells 901 atomizers; may as well combine and cut down on shipping...

FWIW, he has a "make an offer" button on his site, so I offered him $32.95 for the kit and he accepted (then the $4 extra for the 1300 was added) ... Ended up at $36.95 ... Just FYI for anyone else out there considering where to buy...

Wow, good to know!

And a question for everyone: Ok, so I've heard a lot of people say that dripping onto an atty is a great, cost-effective way to sample new juices. What I'm wondering is, once you drip a juice, doesn't that flavor pretty much stick w/ that atty for it's lifespan? I've honestly never dripped (sad to admit almost five months into this) and I've thought about ordering a few attys to give it a shot, but I guess I don't really understand why it's a better testing method. I've also heard a lot of people say that cartos are the cheaper way to sample, as they are generally cheaper than attys and if you don't like the flavor you can just toss the carto. I'd appreciate any and all opinions on these methods, as I'd love to find a simple way to sample a variety of flavors w/o wasting too much gear.

I haven't tried this with the 808s but don't see why it wouldn't work, either with an 808 atty or a 306 atty & an adapter. I use the 306 attys on my 510 E-Power for testing (and sometimes just for vaping), wash them out thoroughly in hot water, dry them and the previous flavor is gone as far as I can tell. Now I can't smell anything so YMMV, but that seems like the way to go to me.

do all the Echo batteries have LED tips? I've been looking at buying an Echo-E (510) battery just because I've been wanting an ego-styled battery with an LED at the end for a while now, but I can't tell if all Echo batteries have that, or just some.

Maybe the echo batteries do. I have an echo-e (same thing except 510 instead of KR808) and mine doesn't.

Ah ok, thanks. I saw this video review recently REVIEW OF THE ECHO ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE - YouTube and thought the LED at the end of was a nice touch, but it didn't look like the 510 version had that when I went looking at vendors selling it. Regardless, I've tried both the single and dual coil echo-e cartos and thought they were pretty awesome.

My kit that I got on Tuesday came w/ red LEDs (wanted blue, but whatever), though they weren't the 510 variety. And yes, the cartos absolutely rock. They are 3ml. Filled them Tues night w/ 75 drops each and have been vaping them ever since w/o refill. Granted I don't chain vape, but I've been hitting them pretty regularly.

I've discovered something unique with these. the auto batteries aren't reliant on airflow through the battery like the old autos were. the old automatics meant you couldn't block the airflow coming from the led light at the tip. These you can. You can be creative of you want to block the light for some reason. I did manage to pop the crystal tip off these but I don't reccomend tryng it. I had to do it because it's what I do and luckily curiosity didn't kill the cat, only cracked it a little.

Which to buy - 650 or 1300?

I would highly recommend a 1300 battery. I almost went with a 650 myself, but they were sold out when I was ordering. I'm very happy that I went with the bigger one in the end. It's definitely not as big as I thought it would be and a charge will last me almost two days at my vape pace.

Low resistance cartomizers? relevant to this product?

The Echo is an 808 device, so you can use any 808 cartomizer which you like. You can certainly use a low res one since you'll have either a 650 or 1300 mAH battery @ 4.2-3.7 volts. The mega cartos that come with the Echo starter kit are not low res, although there is a dual coil version that most people seem to prefer.

Need a link to the perfect starter kit?

There's an Echo kit on sale over at Smoketek. It looks to be the best deal at the moment. It's $38.95 and comes with two batteries, a wall and usb charger and two Echo cartomizers. I would also make sure to get some extra cartos if it's within your budget. A box of dual coil Echomizers to try and a box of any type of normal 808 cartomizer to test juices on. You don't want to fill up a 3mL carto and then decide you don't like the juice!

I need to put something in the darn thing, right? Are there sample kits that are pre filled cartomizers or do I need to learn this DIY filling method right now if I want to use the echo?

Echo cartomizers DO NOT come prefilled which is probably a little annoying for beginners. You can always pick up other 808 cartos that are prefilled, but filling your own is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Echo cartomizers are huge, so the best way to fill them is with a syringe. All you do is fill up your syringe, stick it down between the stuffing and the metal edge of the carto until you hit the bottom and squeeze making sure to evenly fill from each side.

Need recommendations for something approximating camel menthol for a pack a day smoker. Though I also am willing to try other things.. Maybe as part of a sample kit.

I'm a huge fan of Backwoods Brew as I think they have the best tobacco flavors. Casablanca is their Turkish type tobacco flavor. They don't have a sample pack though, which is a good idea if you're just starting out. You could try The Vapor Room. They have some nice sales for first time buyers and offer a sampler. I would suggest getting a few juices that are out of your comfort zone at first. I thought I would hate anything other than tobacco and got a free sample of Waffle because I thought it sounded hilarious. It turned out to be one of my favorite flavors!

How much eliquid to buy at first?

You can never go wrong with too much juice. :p Just try not to buy huge bottles of one flavor until you've tried it. I made this mistake at first and was stuck with huge bottles of stuff I hated. Order samples or 15mL of one flavor and if you like it, then go back and get a huge bottle!

I saw mention of battery issues in the echo thread, nine hour charge time. Then there was talk of an upgraded echo and I don't know if the problem went away.

I would say nine hours is probably about right. That is the only thing that annoyed me about Echo at first, but now I charge one while I sleep and it's fresh by morning. Since the 1300 battery will last me two days and I have two of them, I never really worry about the charge time myself. YMMV though and perhaps someone else can chime in on this issue!

If there's anything confusing in my answers, I can totally clarify. When I was looking to buy my first device, I was absolutely dumbfounded by all the jargon that goes with e-cigs. Just take your time and buy whatever you think will keep you off those nasty ciggies!

I found an ECHO 510 threaded, and it explicitly says that due to internal limiter, it would shut down with LR cartos.
http://www.ecigexpress.com/joye-ego...o-manual-battery-for-ego-510-stainless-p-1032

I want a big battery that works with Smok Dual Coils MEGA (3ml) 1.6ohms, and since this 510 threaded won't work with it, I wonder if the standard 801 threaded would work using an adapter, or the battery will shut down due to high wattage.
Any idea?

Yes there working voltage is 3.7. I have in my collection 2 1100ma and 2 650ma battery's,love them.
The only down side is the recharge time a 500ma charger would nice.

Yeah, apparently they come off the charger at 4.2v, I just found out. Did you try it with LR cartos? I would love to use my 3ml Smok Dual Coil LR on it, using an adapter of course (does a 801-510 even exist?)

a 500 mah charger would be nice if it didn't shorten the charging cycles of your battery. When charging, the cooler you keep the battery the longer it will last overall. Also, it's heating the battery that causes those random charging issues we may have heard about. Hangsens refusal to put out a higher mah battery has been a little annoying but it says something for the pride they take in their product (I guess )
